Default How do you store your S&W?

Grips on or off?
Seems like when we talk about condition, we want to know what the frame looks like under the grips. here is a couple pics of what I started doing........

REVOLVER STORAGE.jpg

PISTOL HANGER.jpg

In the second pic, it shows a "hanger" I that made. I have found them for sale, but they are designed (it seems) for 22's. When I hang a larger caliber pistol on it, they sag.

So I went to a local hardware store, bought some different round stock, bent them so they will hang on the back of the shelf. After that, I covered them in heat shrink/shrink tube to keep from the guns from being scratched.

Another question, how do you feel about silicone socks? I have a couple lever rifles that I DO NOT WANT scratched, dinged, bumped, ect, ect.......

What are your thoughts and advice?

Thank you for your time.
Bob

PS- I can not figure out why my pics are coming out side ways & upside down. If anybody is willing to fix them, please do so.

Mine are stored in Bore Stores... Cleaned, oiled and into the pouch they go. Although my safe is a wee bit overcrowded, they all stay dry, clean and cushioned in the racks. I do like your approach to the hangar, but I prefer the Bore Store for storage in the safe.

Mine are all kept in Halliburton aluminum cases, then placed into my gun safe. The blued and stainless ones are heavily sprayed with Remmington oil.The nickel ones are sprayed with Kel brand pure silicone .Can be kept for five years like this if needed.

Could you explain why some of your S&W's have their grips
on while some have them off?

I live in a low humidity state ( Nevada), and I store all my
blued steel and wood stock guns in silicone impregnated socks
to keep the safe rash down to a minimum. Also, if there is
a fire and smoke somehow gets into the safe, the blue finish
won't be ruined by the putrid smoke.

But that's just me.

All but my ready guns, are stored in Bore-Store bags, or silicon treated Crown Royal bags, secured in heavy duty lockers. All of them are removed from storage, inspected, and wiped down with a silicon cloth 2 - 3 times a year.
