A glorious day in north Georgia
I believe this is the first weekend since April that it has not rained in Rabun county. The temp is 62 degrees with a steady 10-15 m.p.h. breeze. I am waiting on some friends to show up then we will head out to a near-by firing range to try out my recently acquired Remington 660 .222 that some former owner camo painted and had the chamber reamed to .222 MAGNUN, according to what is hand stamped on the barrel. I got a baby shoe box full of brass and two boxes of .222 Magnum ammo with the gun, a 4x Springfield scope and a leather sling with it. If this rifle will stay on a golf ball at 100 yards I will keep it, not that I need it.
Supposedly, Stone Mountain, GA gunsmith T.C. Kennon did the rechambering so I ain't afraid to shoot it. Kennon was a local legend, I knew him when I was younger but he has likely been gone at least twenty years.

I know how you feel about the rain. I have been trying to paint my garage for 2 months. It has finally stopped the last 2 days. I live near Cleveland.

I have not been fishing in a while, as all the waterways around here are muddy from all the rain.
The little Remington wanted to shoot, but the ancient Tip-Off scope mounts are loose so I will replace them with a solid mount. I ran ten rounds through it, decided to stop and conserve the remaining ammo.

A glorious day in north Georgia
Rain.., er rain.., oh, I remember what it is..Haven't had an appreciable rain in three of four months, and it got to 105 degrees F, this afternoon. Some guy was concerned about old ammo exploding the other day. I'm concerned the new stuff is going to, from the heat. Lady on the news last night was telling young parents to check the playground equipment, to make sure it was not too hot for the kids. A handheld digital meter showed 135 F, on a slide! Sixty-two degrees!, I'd have to pull out my heavy coat...Seriously, congratulations on the new (old) rifle, but I tried to second guess you on the re-chambering..thought it would be .223. Finding any ammo around here is an on-going struggle around these parts, but .222/.222 mag, has been next to impossible to find for two or three years. You said you were conserving the ammo, but did not tell us how accurate the rifle is??!

I have family and friends up that way in Mountain City, Franklin and Highlands, the have been telling me how wet it's been.
You ever go to the free forest service ranges near Dillard and near Wayah Bald?
I'm gonna be up there on 8/18 and 8/19 hopefully the weather is nice.

I know a guy that worked w/ T.C. Kinnon part time. He still speaks of him in reverent tones...... I wish I'd known him.

The Remington is gone
I ran into a family at our local pizza place late Sunday, I have armed most of them over the years. Grandpa Bernie is a retired anesthesiologist and avid shooter and amateur gunsmith. He can tune up a rifle and hand load ammo and teach the youngsters, and a few of their dads, how to shoot and hunt. I have placed about a dozen guns with that extended family.
So the next upcoming cousin needed a rifle and I let this one go. Bernie is working it over and the kid is ecstatic.
