Gunman in Dekalb County School
It's being reported on the news right now that someone with a gun was in the office of a Dekalb County school demanding WSB-TV send a crew to the school and he wanted to talk to Dekalb County police. It just so happened that there were officers at the TV station when the call came in. A reporter heard shots over the phone and police said there was an "active shooter" in the school. Police have also said they have one man in custody and are clearing the buildings to make sure there are no other people involved.

Latest reports:
No children injured.
Sounds like an attention seeker as he called the station saying he didn't want to hurt anyone, just wanted the News station and LEO there to talk to him.

Either CNN or a Nashville station reported about 30 shots fired but no one injured. Shooter is in custody.

Update
Apparently he had someone in the school office call WSB because he wanted them to send out a camera crew so people could "watch police die." Obviously this guy was either looney tunes, really mad at the police or both. Current reports have him armed with a handgun and an AK-47. He reportedly surrendered to police with no resistance.

If you are going to post stuff like this, for God's sake POST THE DAMN NAME OF THE SCHOOL!
I have grandchildred in "a Dekalb County School", and it would be nice to know if it was Austin Elementary or not.
edit: I just found it. For anyone else that might be worried, it was McNair.

Alpo, my apologies...sorry about that. When I wrote the OP, they had just broke in with the "developing story" and hadn't identified the school. Mea Culpa.

Like John Wayne said to Robert Mitchum's kid, when he saw him lyin' next to the crashed motorcycle, in Big Jake.
"You scared me out of five years of my life, and I ain't got that many years left."
I forgive you.

Incident was at McNair Discovery Learning Academy in DeKalb County, GA. Perpetrator was a 20 y.o. identified as Michael Brandon Hill. He fired shots into the air per the initial report and the police were said to have returned fire. No one was hit per the report. Truly an attention-seeker, but for what purpose? This is an unfolding story.........we live in some trying times.

We had a shooting last thursday here. A nut motorcyclist was being chased by the police and while being chased shot another motorcyclist. They dont think he knew him either. We drove by about 5 minuets after the action and seen the wrecked bike and a guy trying to get up etc. Its nuts out there. I thought we left this stuff in california.
Heres the news story on it.

The 20 year old shooter was also a convicted felon. He (obviously) had severe mental disorders and was a threat to his family. He was off his medication. The gun was acquired from an acquaintance, but it isn't clear whether he bought the gun or stole it. (I imagine the fellow will claim it was stolen). The rifle was a .762-caliber AK-47-style weapon, manufactured by Romarm/Cugar.
This is another case of failure of the mental health system in the USA that will be spun as a need for more restrictive gun legislation. Thankfully it ended without loss of life.
