Default TV Getting Boring?

Aloha,

Is it just me or are programs on TV and Cable getting Boring?

The only show I enjoy watching now is Duck Dynasty.

Lots of the shows seems to be going downhill in terms of quality and accuracy of events.

Even the news is full of Stupid people doing things that they Should know better Not to do, but still do them anyway and they get killed.

There are times when I don't watch the TV.

Just wondering out loud.

Encore movies and Cincinnati Reds baseball comprise most of my tv watching. I don't watch any network shows and have never watched an entire episode of any reality tv show including Duck Dynasty. I might have to tune that in but if it has commercials I'll probably turn it off pretty fast.

I much prefer the entertainment the internet offers.

Get Netflix or Hulu. Watch what ya want when ya want to. I catch up on TV shows from years back that I never watched way back when. Or old movies... $8 a month or so...

Yep almost nothing on but the fake reality shows. I watched DD for the first time last night won't happen again, it's just another reality show. TCM, History shows, old movies and old westerns are about all I watch anymore but they to run them over and over day in and day out except TCM. But the stupid wipeout show I may contunie to watch. It's stupid but fun to watch people make an idioit out of themselves getting knocked down into the nasty looking water. Just turn the volume off.

It seems like the networks all flounder around trying to find the next hot thing, & then when one of them has a modicum of success, all the others rush to copy it. In example all the pawn shop shows, the custom fish tank shows, the bad tattoo shows. the lack of originality does make for boring TV.

Spend $8 Bucks a month and get Netflix. You can stream unlimited Movies, Documentaries, History, Vintage TV Shows, etc. I think they still give you a month free trial so you've got nothing to loose. When there is nothing on TV, I just hit the Netflix button.

I love Netflix for the same reasons that have been listed above. I basically have not watched regular TV shows (other than NFL football) for many, many years. Last show I can remember that I regularly watched was probably "Barney Miller" and even then it was already in syndication and shown before the evening news.

HOWEVER, my 22 year old son kept buggin' me to watch "Breaking Bad." He kept saying, "Dad you will love it"? He was right. About a year ago I gave in and got the first season on Netflix and proceeded to eagerly watch every episode of every season. Great production values, brilliant writing, quality acting, dark humor, violence, whatever, "Breaking Bad" has it all. Another good friend convinced me to do the same for "Justified" a show about a US Marshall assigned to his hometown of Harlan, Kentucky. I really like it too, not as much as BB but still really good.

So IMHO and based only on these two shows, television has taken huge strides in providing quality, entertaining programs that I don't remember EVER seeing in the past.

Netflix either sends DVD rentals to your house. Or you watch nonlinear via computer, gaming system, roku like device, tablet or cell phone.

As others have chimed in....get Netflix.I'm anticipating the second season of Kevin Spacy in "House of Cards" and have been hooked recently on Korean cinema with all it's dark, gritty crime noir.
I haven't watched network television for years except for weather and traffic but like Suits on USA Network.Top Gear and Copper on BBC America and just about anything on the Velocity network.

No problems here but I only watch a few tv shows and no reality based anything. No Duck Dynesty or any of that nonsense.

The shows I like are
Dexter
Ray Donovan
The Bridge
Homeland
Walking Dead
NCIS

I might be forgetting one or two. Thats really it though.

It comes over the Internet, not cable. You'll need highspeed internet, router (home network), and a smart TV or a box hooked up to your TV (I use Apple TV) that will wirelessly connect to your home network. Excellent HD quality video. Endless selection of TV programming and movies... all on demand for a fee of less than $10 a month. Our cable TV watching is basically for news. Most everything else is Netflix.

just found out our cable company is going to start charging extra beyond a certain usage point. don't know if this is industry wide or not, but you might want to check into it.

On a serious note. Even when the TV gets so bad, regular reception or cable, I've tried to just listen to the radio, and it's about as bad.....AM or FM..

Could someone please leave me a clue....What the Hell are they saying any more? That's not music, it's just noise.......And it's not even good noise at that.....

Those daytime soaps??????? Papa Loves Mambo.......Mama Loves Mambo......Mambo is taking steroids for the change.. Junior Mambo is in the hospital after being assaulted....His nurse is seeing Papa on the side....Mama suspects, but......

If all that there was to watch was Duck Dynasty, then I guess I'd never watch TV again, save on the cable bill, and just read a book, like The Life & Times of the Plenty Family, by Gravel Gertie.

Hasn't been anything worth watching on TV since the late 70s. Hundreds more channels but less to watch.

I'm in the oilfield and we get a satellite package in our living quarters that literally gets over 600 channels. East and west coast feeds of the major cable networks, the works. It almost all sucks now days. When we can have that many channels and say there's nothing on, that's a bad sign of the entertainment industry.

Forget prime time tv shows with crime and cops involved enough is enough.

I enjoy and only watch,

Duck Dynasty

Alaska gold mining, Parker and Fred. I don't like it when the Hoffman's went to south America.

The Alaska, Montana and the southern guys homesteading and living off the land.

The ghost miners very interesting show about the old haunted gold mines.

Haunted shows.

"ME TV" it's old tv shows we grew up watching like leave it to beaver, drag net, Adam 12, fire rescue guys.

Opps I left out Sanford & Sons, three stooges, the rifleman, rawhide, When tv was good tv with no drama stuff

That's about it for tv. I listen to music slot. All types of music. Bb

What do you mean "getting"?

I watch no sports whatever, so that eliminates easily 50% of what's on TV.

I watch no "reality" shows whatever, so that eliminates another 10-15%.

Nothing religious, another 1%.

I haven't the slightest interest in pawnshops, commercial fishermen, alligators, "noodling" for catfish, home "flipping", fashion design, or restaurant makeovers. Knock off another 10-15%.

Meteor impacts, super volcanoes, and "Life After People" all bore me to tears. That's another 1%.

That leaves, specifically gun related shows, military history shows, aviation history shows, science shows, '30s and '40s movies on TCM, "Good Eats", "Big Bang Theory" and "The Original Yankee Workshop".

I spend easily three times as much time on the internet reading about guns, history, computers and photography as I EVER do watching TV.

The only new shows I watch are:
The Walking Dead-because Michael Rooker is a fantastic actor who got me into watching it. Now that he's not even a Zombie (Walker) etc--I dont know if ill be avid in watching season 4 or not? which starts in Oct sometime.

Other that that--all I enjoy is the Shooting All Stars show on THC, Restaurant Impossible, Histories Mysteries/Mysteries At the Museum and Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. Oh and--when that duo who does the metal detecting show arent acting stupid--I enjoy their digs with ""original" finds.

BTW--if anyone is interested? while at Wm this morning and after discovering they had no ammo--I ventured over to the $5 DvD bin--and picked up a DvD with 10 episodes of Secrets of War--which was narrated by Charlton Heston. I remember when that show first was shown--which was in the late 90s and was on the History Channel--when they actually showed nothing but historical stuff.

I haven't had TV at home in 17 years. Don't feel the least deprived.

There are times when I don't watch the TV.

Just wondering out loud.
Boring? No, it has just gotten more worthless and useless over the past twenty years.

Aside from DVDs, our TVs are almost never used (unless our son is home from college...). Lost interest in American TV after we came back from overseas about 15 years ago.

About 10 minutes on the Weather Channel before dinner (hit Local on the 8s once) and that's about it.

95% of what's on tv today is pure garbage with little to no entertainment value...

We got rid of TV about 5-6 years ago. It was just advertising, propaganda and no longer had any value to us. Last night, it proved to be a real asset not having TV as we were blessed with not having to see or hear any Miley Cirus (sp?).

Shooot... I've believe before the season is over I'll know how to make white lightning... kill and wrestle alligators... and avoid the law! And with just a few more tips and I should be able to survive anywhere.. even naked!

But really after having Hannah Montana Miley Cirus run to death I'm likely to just shoot the dang TV.

I gave away my TV in 1981. Very recently got another with a Blu-Ray player, but don't have cable and can't even get "free" TV as I have no aerial. I do get Netflix though. I remember people mentioning some show called "Moonlighting;" never saw it (Bruce Willis?). Never saw "Friends." Caught an episode of "Seinfeld" at a friend's house...didn't care for it. When people talk about funny commercials I just shake my head. Guess I was born too late.

Curious, how do you get netflix without cable? Does it stream over DSL ?

I'm at $180/mo and still can't find anything decent to watch. I think netflix and a good old antenna might be all I need.
