Default The one gun you would never sell

Of all the guns you own or have owned, what is the one gun you would nevr sell but pass on to family?

Mine would have to be my Colt Woodsman that I purchased from my Dad. Used to shoot it as a young boy. Always wanted it. On day my Dad asked me if I wanted to buy it for $50.00. (next best thing to a gift. With Dad something you earned/bought had a lot more value then something that was given.) Couldn't get the cash out of my wallet fast enough! My second oldest daughter is A LEO and a shooter. It will go to her when the time comes.

I'd never sell my 586 or my Savage .30-06 hunting rifle.

First, they are both my babies. Second, I have too much money invested into both of them in upgrades, etc. to ever get my money back out of them.

There are two revolvers I would never sell. One is a 6" 28-2 that was given to me by my identical-twin (deceased) brother. I went up one weekend to visit. We went shooting that Saturday afternoon. We fired about 500-600 rounds of .38 Special and about 200 rds. of .357 Magnum. He had two 6" 28-2's. We shot them both throughout the afternoon. When we ran out of ammo, we were picking up and getting ready to leave. He asked me which revolver I thought was the best. I pointed to the one I'd been mostly shooting and the told me to take it on home.

The other revolver is a 18-2 that I bought in 2002. At the time I paid to much money. I bought it from an acquaintance who was in the final stages of lung cancer. He was selling off a few of his things, one of which was the 18-2. I didn't have enough money, so I sold a Yugoslavian M-98 along w/ some ammo to raise the needed cash. It is a startlingly accurate handgun. It also has for me great sentimental value.

I have other firearms that mean a great deal to me. But, these two would be the very last ones I'd ever let go.

In 1962 my wife bought me a Marlin .22 lever action rifle. It is a Marlin 39M Golden Mountie. I guess of all the guns I own it would be one I would never sell, just because she bought it for me. It has not been shot much in a long time and is still like new.

For me it would be my 4" model 686 and my 5.56 semi-auto rifle and my M-1 carbine. Now that I think about it, the M-1 carbine.

The 1st handgun I ever bought, a '75 Ruger Super Single Six compliments of the federal gov't. I got a $150 "rebate" from Uncle Sam when I was in college that March and so broke I had to eat dirt to stay alive. So what does any red blooded male do with a windfall like that? $90.25 on the Ruger, $10 on a holster, and a whole bunch of .22's. The rest of the $? Probably on gas for my '69 Nova.

It's sure not my most valuable gun, but nothing else I own has the memories I have in that old Single Six.

A 1917 vintage commercial Colt 1911. It was Grampa's, then Dad's, now mine. Grampa and Dad shot competitive Bullseye with it and there is no telling how many thousands of rounds have been down the pipe. I remember the very first time I was allowed to shoot it. Grampa drove us down a dirt road on the outskirts of Raymond, NH and we put some old cans up on a wooden fence. Grampa had it stoked with his competition loads, an H&G #130 over some tiny charge of Hercules Bullseye. Real softball loads they were, but I was 8 years old and had only shot .22's up to that point. Old slab sides made quite an impression on this kid.

Grampa was the one that soldered on the Patridge front and bobbed the hammer. No doubt killed any collector value, but no matter... It's priceless to me. I have a lot of handguns that I shoot more, but they are just things. This gun is my heritage.

It's tough to say. I am a new gun owner really. But I currently up to 4 guns, 2 handguns and 2 rifles. I would say if there were to be any I am hesitant to sell it would be the handguns. All I have though is a sd9ve and a ruger mkIII. I just recently bought my winchester 700 in .308 win and it's my most expensive firearm so far (with having to buy a scope as well), but I could see myself selling it and the other rifle is just a mosin nagant. The only way I can see myself selling the sd9ve is if I were to trade up to maybe a m&p 9

Here is my 66-1 that has a recessed cylinder but no barrel pin S/N 114K2XX. I bought this revolver used from my friend who is also an FFL. This was the first new gun that he sold as a FFL. The fellow that he sold it to new later traded it in to him. The 66 was sold again to another customer. Once again the 66 was traded in but this time I took possession and have owned it since 1987. I just might have to take this one with me.

Either my first LE gun, a 4" Model 27, or my first .22, a Remington Nylon 66 Apache Black, will always be with me.

I suppose its my Colt 6920.

Even at doubled value, during the frenzy, I still wouldn't sell it.

With its iron sights, I can hit 8" steel plates at 200 yards, first shot. I have over 1500 rounds through it since last cleaning. Never malfunctioned.

None of the few I have left. They'll all go to my son when I croak. In turn he'll pass them down to his three boys.

It would have to be my Ruger Deer Stalker .44 mag carbine. Interesting story behind it.

My father was a stonemason. We lived in CT. Back about 1961 or so, he ended up doing a stone fireplace for Bill Ruger. They talked hunting and guns quite a bit, and my father, who hunted Maine every year for bucks and blackbear, suggested a .44 mag lever action. He hunted with a Winchester 94 in 30-30, but for some reason was fascinated by the new 44 mag as a brush gun.

As the story goes, the old man spent a few weekends extra doing some additional stone work around Rugers place, and he was thankful for it. He told my old man there was a new rifle coming out he might like, but could not give any more details.

About six months later, my father got a call from the old Sportsmans Den in Stratford to come pick up his gun. The old man didn't know what they were talking about, but they insisted it was his, so he drove down there. Waiting for him was a brand new, first production run 44 mag Deer Stalker carbine with a beautiful figured stock, and a note from Bill Ruger thanking him for the work he had did on his house, saying he had picked one out for him with pretty wood, and wishing him luck on those big Maine bucks.

It was that fall that the old man retired the model 94 (it later became mine when I was old enough), and spent the next 30 years hunting with that .44, and taking more than a couple nice bucks, and a black bear.

Over the years that note from Ruger, along with the box were lost, but I still have that rifle, after my dad passed in 1998.

I took it to Maine in 2000 and shot a decent buck with it, then retired it to my safe. Its not for sale.

That would be my Dad's sporterized 30-40 Krag and Colt Commando. These were the only two firearms that I knew of that he owned. My mother somehow came up with the money for the Krag as a present for Dad, back when money was real tight, so this one is from Mom and Dad. Dad gave me the Krag when I turned sixteen and I harvested my first three whitetails with that rifle with my hand loads. The Colt Commando was bought by my Aunt Ardis for home protection then realized that she really didn't want it and gave it to my Dad. Dad kept it under a pillow on his couch for many years and I would get it out and clean it twice a year and give him fresh ammo now and again. It had a bulge in the barrel about halfway down and after I inherited it from Dad I found it still shot ok. These two will stay with me until I'm gone and will be passed down to my Grandson.

Too many to list. Grandfather's single shot 12 gauge and 22 rifle, Dad's shotgun and lever action rifle, my first rifle and handgun, you get the idea.

There are actually a bunch, but the one that jumps to the front of my mind is my Grandad's Winchester model 94 in 25-35. It is by far the most worn and used of all my guns, but it holds the most sentimental value.

.22 Voere rifle from a friend who married a 'I don't want any guns around the house!' I don't know the history of it but it was given to him by his father who recently passed away. Whenever he wants it back, its his. A 10/22 rifle I told my 14yr old nephew its his but his father is another who dislike guns.

Growing up, a friend and father figure passed a couple of guns he bought for me. When his family asked, I said no. I didn't want anything from the family but been trying to come up with the same guns ever since.

I will never sell my custom 1917 Colt or Army Special. To much time and money
invested, plus the fact that I never get tired of looking at them.

I don't think I would part with any of mine. The one pistol that didn't work for me I sold earlier this year, so the rest are keepers. There are a few that are getting hard to find, but that's not why I keep them. Their value to me is what each model offers, its uniqueness. Since I have no children to pass them on to, a good friend of mine is going to get them all when I make out my will. I know he would treasure them, & keep them well. I've thought about maybe having one go in the box with me, probably my 686-2. It was my first S&W. But that would be wasteful, so I'm undecided on that.

I read these "never part with" threads, but I can't make myself to say never about anything I have.

My firearms, even the keepsakes are just things. I may "never" market some, but the right price will buy anything I have.

A couple of years ago I let a few old long guns that I'd had for 40 years go to someone that I knew would continue to enjoy them. Some hadn't been fired in more than 25 years.

I haven't had any remorse about selling them as I know that instead of just sitting in the back of a safe they're being enjoyed by others.

I would never sell my Remingtom 514. I'd like to keep it for squirrels and such. It belonged to my Dad til he gave it to me.

Default Another cheat...with two

another cheat with two to show. Both were custom work by Tim Thompson when he was in Alaska. The full size 45 is on an Olympic Arms carbon steel frame and slide, Bo- Mar adjustable sights, Vidicki short trigger, Bar-Sto match bull barrel, wedge mainspring housing, hard chromed and used for training classes, competition with full loads and was a gift from a beautiful blonde that puts up with me. The second 45 is a Seattle Detonics carefully worked. As I am likely to go first she will keep and shoot them.
Will also keep a 45-70 Marlin made for dealing with brown ear coming into camp. Only fair as it kept me.

The Fosbery, the Schofield and the New Model 3 will never leave the house to an other owner. OK. I will keep my Colt SAA to.

I really need a new photo of this one. My dad's Model 36 no dash. The only gun my dad ever purchased. He carried and shot it, a lot, for thirty plus years. Taught me how to shoot a handgun with it. The 1968 S&W now wears correct original style stocks and a vintage Tyler-T grip. Dad carried it with a Pachmyer adapter and later set of Compaq grips.

I don't hunt, so the only guns I own are handguns. As much as I like them, they are still just things, and I would sell any of them for the right price. But if I had to sell off my handguns, the next to last would be my Ruger P97DC, an inexpensive 45acp that has been totally reliable with any ammo that I feed it, and my only semi that I am almost as confident in as my revolvers. But the last that I would part with is my Model 19 nickel that I bought 30 years ago new after my then only gun was stolen in a burglary. I think this 4-inch 357mag revolver is just about the perfect all-around gun, and is the best looking of any of my guns. Unfortunately for me, my wife really dislikes guns, and none of my four children (including the one in law enforcement) likes or wants guns around. So when I pass on I expect that whoever takes possession of my firearms will sell them off. My best hope is that at least one of my grandchildren (9 so far and 1 on the way) will develop an appreciation for firearms and give me some hope as someone I can pass on at least this one great gun as something to remember Grandpa by.

My dad left me a 1916 number's matching Luger, it isn't going anywhere. A few years ago I bought a 1972 model 66 that came with a letter stating it belonged to a Memphis policeman that was killed in 1973, it ain't going anywhere either. Then there's a 1912 FSR M96 Swedish Mauser sitting in the prettiest piece of walnut I ever saw on a milsurp rifle.

And then......and then.

Oh heck why sell anything, you always regret it.

There is no such thing. I don't have any emotional attachment to any of mine. They're just guns. I buy, sell, and trade them all the time.

Default Never sell

My Fathers, pre-64 Winchester mod 70 Featherweight in 30/06.
Fathers 1948 Browning superposed 20 and .12 ga.
1914 Colt 1911 he shipped back in pieces from China in 1946.
My Grandfathers Nickle, Colt Army .38spl that he carried as a Chicago Cop in the 1920's and 30's. His badge and the Chicago Newspaper article of the two gangsters he shot and killed with it, in a Chicago restaurant in 1929.
Anything else is up for grabs but I'm particularly fond of a 1959 Ruger .44 mag Blackhawk that I've had for years.

I favor Colt Single actions.
I reckon this one will stay and be passed down one day.

NEVER sell my 6" M-27. Two reasons, it's the nicest shooting handgun I've ever owned, and most importantly it was a gift from my NON-gun person wife.

The one I would never part with is the 686 I inherited when my dad passed in '92. He bought it new in '81 (the last gun he owned), have the box, tools, papers, even the receipt. I gave it to my older son but he wanted me to enjoy it so he gave it back to me. He'll get it again one day and hopefully pass it on to his son who'll be be making his debut in middle October.

I have a custom built 1911 I got from our dear friend and former forum member IBSandy that will be going to my younger son when I no longer need it.

Old Jim was an adopted Grandfather for me as he never had children and my Grandfathers died young. Jim was a WWII Navy dive bomber pilot and after the war bought one of the new Ruger 22 pistols, a four digit serial number one likely built in Ruger's garage in 1949. Jim gave me that pistol before he died and after I explained what a Red Eagle was worth even back then. He said to sell it and keep the money if it was worth that much money but I never will.
I still have it and will likely go one day to my brother or his son.

If I had to sell off everything, the very last to go would be my Colt Combat Commander .45.

The one gun I would never, ever sell would be my grandfathers .22 rifle. It's a single shot Springfield Jr. Model 50. This model was originally made by Page-Lewis starting in 1928 and when Page-Lewis was bought out by Savage, they continued making them under the name Springfield Arms until 1932. It was the first rifle I ever shot around age 6 and it will go to my oldest grandson.

I'm parting with my 1915 DWM Luger (all numbers match, 2 magazines and WW11 holster) when I die.

It's already been 'willed' to my only son.

I would have to say I would keep my Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum that I bought in 1966 for about $87.00. Best shooter I have ever owned. Still shoots better than I most of the guns I own.

I'm very surprised just how much things do change. Things I thought I would be doing I'm not and other things take their place.

That said, my 686 would be the last to go.
