The Federalist Papers in Modern English
Mary E. Webster "translated" the Federalist Papers into Modern English in 1999 and some still found them difficult to understand.
She now has taken them down to the 10th grade level in Modern English Edition Two...
Has anyone read either Edition? I spend so much time with the "thee's and thou's" in the originals that I lose the meanings.
Thanks!

I've read them but it's been a long time. Hoping to pick them back up again soon but I rarely find the time. Going to stop watching stupid TV shows and read more I hope.
My solution for older works is to read a page or two of something like Milton or Shakespeare first. After half a page of Paradise Lost you can read anything and it feels approachable.
Personally I applaud anything that gets people reading the writings of the Founders. As long as the meaning isn't lost I would love if we made it required reading in every school in the land.

Well, I "sent away for" (obsolete term meaning "ordered on-line" ) the 1999 version as well as Patrick Henry's "The Anti-Federalist Papers". May as well get both sides of the whole argument.
Gawd, I am such a nerd!

Sounds like something I should pick up. I have a copy of the federalist papers, but they're like reading the original. You need a copy of the 1828 dictionary to make some things understandable.

Let me know if it's worth the investment, I'll have to buy them too, if they are. You are not a nerd, most importantly you are not a sheep waiting to be told what to think and soaking up revisionist history.

I've read them a few times. Not the "modern" versions. I generally don't like to read people's renditions of other works because it might not come through correctly.

just finished one of the Longmire books and needed something else- good timing and great idea bluejax
but, get with the new technology - get a kindle or a Nexus
But there is yet a further consideration, flourescent lights, solar flares and cell phones have no effect on them, which proves beyond the possibility of a doubt, that the observation of any augument is futile.
just downloaded The Federalist Papers (free) and the Anti-federalists papers ($0.99)
and the 10th grade version $9.99
you want difficult reading - try reading property deeds from the late 1700's and early 1800's

I always liked.....
I liked the King James Bible, but after spending many years with other and more modern translations I tried to read it again and found it to be laborious.
