Default Shipping guns and a tale of two states

I just found the Brady Campaign web site with the ranking of states in terms of gun laws.

Of course, my ideas are that the higher a state ranks in the eyes of the Brady Bunch, the lower it ranks in my eyes.

The state with the highest Brady rating for the most comprehensive gun laws is California.

The state with the lowest Brady rating is Arizona.

Turns out I grew up in Arizona but live now in California.

But, I have a second home, shared with my sister, in Phoenix.

I figure I should move some of my guns to the Arizona home.

And I plan to apply for a CCW there.

So I'm wondering if I can ship a gun to Arizona from California via Fed-Ex or UPS. Address it to my sister so she can sign for it.

She uses the house more than I, and I sure don't want to send a gun without requiring a signature.

If not, I suppose I could drive, but from Northern Cal to Phoenix is a hike.

Now if I can get my wife to get along better with my sister, we can use the Phoenix house more often -- but that's an issue for another discussion forum...

Double check this but as I remember, there are provisions in shipping regs that allow you to ship a gun to yourself (only) without involving an FFL. That said, handguns still can't be done USPS by non FFL's. Handguns are expensive (!) to ship Overnight via FedEx/UPS ( which these companies require). Sometimes it's cheaper and easier to use a FFL anyway.

p.s. I'm from the Peoples Republic of Massachusetts, I know we can't be far below California on that list..

Hi:
I would drive the distance to ensure my firearms arrived intact.

+1 make a holiday out of it and you know they got there and didn't get lost. Then you put them in your safe and you know where they are. Sometime people get in a hurry and don't mean to but forget to do what's right because they are in a hurry and might forget to put where they belong, plus you can clean and oil them before putting them away and look at them one more time before you had back to anti CA.

There is provision in Fed law to allow you to ship your guns to YOURSELF only. They can not be addressed to your sister and she can not open the package. I agree with the above posts. Take them there. That will obviate any problems of shipment.

Drive them. A friend has an aged father in California and she said that when he passes I will be offered some of his guns. I told here then the best plan was just to get them out of CA and into NV pronto.

My niece had a gun of hers turn up in CA accidentally and it was an expensive PITA to get it out again. The problem was not CA LE, but the idiot shippers. LE said just stick it in a new box and ship it to the correct state, but the shippers wound themselves round the axle about it.
