Default Out Of Stock Parts, Seemingly Forever!

I get it, really I do. The past year has been insane in the firearms industry as a whole. Can't get ammo, can't find components, can't find magazines. What has my shorts in a bind? Every time some little thing goes wrong with one of my guns, the parts I need are out-of-stock indefinitely.

I need a mainspring housing for a 25 year old Ruger Mark II. The previous owner installed a too light mainspring in it and overly peened the pins holding it together. This part has been on back-order at Midway and Brownells for over a year. Now Ruger has them, but on an exchange only basis and their CS person said mine is no good for exchange since it is modified!

Also need a back sight for a New Model Blackhawk Convertible 45. The one on the gun will not hold setting any longer. Sight is out of stock everywhere and has been for a year. So, I decide to pony up and spend the $$$ for a Hamilton Bowen sight. Guess what- I get an email a week after I ordered that their sight blade supplier ran out of material and my sight is now back-ordered eight to ten weeks.

Need a couple of crane screws for 1970's-80's blued S&W's. Nope those are out-of stock at S&W and Numrich.

End of minor ran rant!

Since this is a S&W site I will mention how I spent 70+ minutes last week: I needed a couple screws for MAGNA GRIPS. You know the ones on tens of millions of S&W's made. After FINALLY getting a human I was told "S&W no longer stocks those." We are talking about GRIP SCREWS for the most popular size grip EVER made.

Can you get a new mainspring for the Ruger MkII and install it in the existing housing.
Knock the old pin out that bubba rivited down like he was building a bridge structure and just make up new one.
The only one that needs to come out to replace the mainspring is the one that the TD latch swivels on.

I wouldn't be waiting around for a year like that.
If Ruger won't sell you a mainspring (Restricted Parts), then you can probably get one from Numrich, Popperts, or one of the others. I think the MkI M/S will work also.
They used to be $1.50 for the M/S. Probably more now that the economy is fixed.

In with the mainspring up front (top) is a plunger that the hammer strut rides on. The part to watch for is the round steel ball that sits at the rear (bottom) of the mainspring when assembled in the housing. It's between the spring and the TD latch and what gives the latch it's over-center 'snap' when closed.
When you remove the cross pin, the latch, ball, spring, and then plunger will come out under spring tension.
Play catch especially for that steel ball.
Carefull reassembling as you must push everything back in under tension and hold it there while you reinsert your (new) pin.
That steel ball likes to skip out of place and take a ride untill it's inside the housing.

Out of Stock is in the same favorites catagory as Price on Request.

Hope you get them fixed up and shooting again.

Go to Ebay and type in Ruger mainspring housing. Ya want blue or stainless , stripped or complete?. There's a half dozen of them.
