I went to the farm sunday afternoon to do some shooting.
Weather was perfect here this weekend.
Called my buddy mid-week and asked about using his 100
yard range to do some rifle shooting. He says sure, come on
out and bring whatever you want to shoot.
I had 2 rifles i have been wanting to wring out so i loaded
them in the old Ford truck and off i went Sunday afternoon.
I had bought a Bushmaster XM15 Varminter earlier this
month and also a Knight Disc Elite Muzzleloader that i had
yet to shoot after mounting Leupold glass on both.
The Bushmaster XM15 has a 20" fluted barrel with a 1-8
twist. I picked this one up for some long range work on
Coyotes this winter as i wanted to shoot a heavier bullet.
Coupled with Black Hills 77 gr. OTM loading and topped with
a Leupold 4x12 this rifle was shooting sub MOA all afternoon.
The Knight Disc rifle in .45 caliber topped with a Leupold 3x9
and loaded with 90 grains of Pyrodex behind a Hornady 200
grain saboted round was also laying them in there nicely
before the day was done. This one will be my main Whitetail
rig for the upcoming Deer season. Here in Indiana it should
work well in the grain fields and around the small patch woods
areas we hunt.
Just an all around pleasant day getting to pull the trigger
and smell the gunpowder with some good results.
