Default Another member of the Greatest Generation gone

My Father in law Frank Fimbres died this morning. He was in the Navy in World War II. He always said that he never saw any of the war. The reason he didn't see anything was because he was deep down inside the Idaho when it was off of Iwo Jima shelling night and day, and when it was damaged by a near miss off of Okinawa and had to limp back to Guam for quick repairs. He was proudly on deck when they were anchored in Tokyo Bay for the Japanese surrender. He will be missed.

Condolences to you, your wife, and the family of Mr. Fimbres.

We're losing those folks, and the Korean War vets, at a sad, terrible rate.

My condolences as well.

We just returned from My FIL's funeral a week ago. Dave was ninety Three.

Army Air Corps, 8th AF Bomber Pilot in WW2. Did his 30 missions in Europe flying both B-17's and B-24's. Then after the war as a USAF Reserve pilot flew F-80's.

Went on to employ dozens of people in several businesses for the next 60 years. Honest to a fault, raised three kids who were cut from the same cloth.

Absolutely the Greatest Generation!

My father also was in WWII. Been gone for many years. They did what they did because, well, that's what you were supposed to do. Did not talk about it afterwards, because you were JUST doing what you were supposed to do, nothing to talk about.

Yes. Greatest Generation ever!
