Heh heh, kinda sorta. I liked TNG and a few eps from some of the others but--there is none like the original. Anyway, I had time on my hands this past 10 days as ive been down with the Flu and other stuff-so I watched all three seasons on DvD

BTW--I have not forgot about the Salsa Verde and also found out (IF) you can get them on the phone--that they also do mail order. Anyway, next show--im gettin you a jar.

In the 1956 movie The Man In The Gray Flannel Suit, DeForest Kelley played a medic. Foreshadowing things to come, he checks a body and says, "This man is dead, Captain".

I think the earliest show I saw him in was: The Lone Ranger. I think he was in the 4th episode of the show. The first three being how TLR came to be as well as became pals with Tonto. He was very young then but you could easily tell that he would become if not great--then very good at the least.

"Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a Wagnerian soprano!"

Nahhh, I made that one up. My brother and I have made up scores of them.

Or Scott: "Ah cannae hold her, Captain, she's kneein' me in th' grroin!"

Or any guy in a red shirt: "Over here, Captain, I've found somethAAARGHHH!"

I LIKE this one!
I did too. That was the episode with the Horta. Kirk shot a piece of it off when it tried to attack him in that tunnel. It then burned into rock something like: "Not Kill I" He had Bones beam down with cement to patch the Horta up with.

"Im a Doctor, not a Bricklayer."

"You Green-blooded.........."

One of my favorite Scotty quips was: "Up Your Shaft." This was when he was replying to something a computer said and this was in the first Star Trek movie.

Back in my day, my friends and fellow shooters knew their Star Trek. Now, obviously, there was less Star Trek back then than there is now, so keeping track of it all was easier as there was only the Original Series and a couple movies.

Still, it shocks me to see that basic things -- like episode names -- are now drifting in the winds of memory. It would be like an avid S&W aficionado talking about his Highway Patrolman and saying "I just can't remember the model number right now...".

This could really give me a complex. Where does one go to get over issues like this? I don't think Dr. McCoy ever addressed this problem. Oh, well.

This has always puzzled me. Why do people know the episode names?

Do they know the episode names of I Love Lucy? Of Gunsmoke? Bonanza? Get Smart? So WHY do they know Star Trek?

I know the shows. Clint Howard at 5 is playing a grown man. Two guys with faces half black and half white, but one's black on the left side one the other's black on the right side, so they hate each other. Planet full of Chicago gangsters. Little kids chanting in a circle, "Call the Angel, we won't go". Kirk fighting a big green lizard. But the episode names?

There was a skit - Saturday Night Live, I believe. A Con, and Shatner was a guest, and they were doing "question time". This guy wearing fake ears stands up and says, "Captain, in Season 3, Episode 16 -", and Shatner says, "Refresh my memory. Which one was that?"

"You took your shirt off and had sex with the alien woman?"

"I need a little more."

"They had you in a cage, fighting for the entertainment of brains?"

"Okay, I got it, what's the question?"

"What were you thinking of, just before they took you in for execution?"

I think, at least in my case and my other old Trekker friends, it was easy to know all the names of the Original Series. We only counted the first two Seasons as "real Trek" because Roddenberry was out for Season Three except in name. James Blish published all his books with each episode down there in print form and so it wasn't that hard to keep up with it.

Now, with all the different series that are out there, you'd have to be really fanatic -- much more so than I am -- to recall the names of them all. I guess it's something that we were into when we were young, and so we learned it and it was an easy enough time to learn it because there wasn't a lot of Trek out there.

These days, there's tons of Trek out there. But I can still see a photo of the Original Series -- particularly if it's from an episode of one of the first two Season's of the show's run and remember the name of the episode. The last time I watched them was when the "remastered" versions of the first two seasons came out.

What ever happened to my Star Trek bubblegum card collection? Why can't I remember that?

Two of those were actually hated 3rd Season Episodes, so I'm amazed I got them, but they came right to mind. I need to go see a shrink.

My brother and I have played that game sober for many years, Sarge. Wally Cox as Wyatt Earp. John Marley and Lee Van Cleef in "The Sunshine Boys". Matha Raye as Mary Poppins. And on and on.

I'm told there is professional help available for this. I'll let you know what I find out about it.

This could really give me a complex. Where does one go to get over issues like this? I don't think Dr. McCoy ever addressed this problem. Oh, well.
My memory on important things has always been bad--partly due to a Neurological prob I developed which ended my LE career. Now its almost blind luck on certain things getting right.

In my case as well, I had a mother who loved the show and made us aware of it in afternoon reruns. I was too young when it originally came out but--it was always on a CBS station from 4-5 Pm usually after The Rifleman and The Munsters and shows like those. I grew up coming home from school to see Star Trek being shown as repeats at least twice a year so was easy to remember the names of favorite episodes.

Some of mine being: Mirror Mirror, Balance of Terror, Let That Be Your Last Battlefield, Galileo Seven, The Doomsday Machine, Arena, A Piece of the Action, Day of the Dove and a few others.

Also, one of my best friends by the name of Tim, is a fanatic of the show--he even tried to talk like Kirk and did a great job of it, and he modeled a lot of his actions after stuff from the show. Yes--we all thought he was either nuts or unique, but he was a nice guy.

I've played that game as well. Phylis Diller as Mary Poppins and Vincent Price as Bert would have given that movie a much different feel.

I kind of like the thought of Don Knotts as Worf. And maybe Moms Mabley as Guinan.

From the time of your post, looks as if you're starting it a little late!

Friday's just another SSDD day for me. Retired, and WAY past chasing women.

The alien asked him what it was and Scotty drunkenly replied, "It's grrrreen." There was a takeoff of this in TNG where Data was in 10 Forward and someone asked what was in the bottle. Data did his puzzled android look and said, "It is green."

Everything I need to know I learned from Star Trek...

Seek out new life and new civilizations

Non-interference is the prime directive

Keep your phaser set on stun

Humans are highly illogical

There is no such things as a Vulcan Death Grip

Live long and prosper

Having is not so pleasing as wanting; it is highly illogical, but often true

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations

Tribbles hate Klingons (and Klingons hate tribbles)

Enemies are often invisible- like Klingons they can be cloaked

Don't put all your ranking officers in one shuttle craft

When your logic fails, trust a hunch

Insufficient data does not compute

If it can't be fixed, just ask Scotty

Even on our own world, sometimes we are alien

When going out into the Universe, remember: "Boldly go where no one has gone before"

Mudds Women taught me at age 13 that there is no perfect situation with the opposite sex that is permanent. Every thing has the good and bad. Harcourt Fenton Mudd was a real eye opening character for a 13 yr old.
