Default Barber Chair -- Long Shot --Any Experts here?

Hi Group.

I have a project going restoring a 1950's Paidar Barber Chair. The hydraulics work, it stays where it is when you pump the handle. The brake doesn't work. The top half of the chair is supposed to lock in place when the chair's handle is pulled back but doesn't. There don't seem to be any schematics available.

Does anyone know where in the base the brake is and how it works, repairs, etc. ?

Thanks.

Bob

They redid once on Pawn Stars. The guy from American Restoration did it. Maybe if you can find that show, you might learn how.

They didn't go into great detail and the available video shows even less. What I learned from their website is that they charge $5000 to go through one.

Thanks

Bob

Not sure about fixing the brake but I would make sure you don't put it under a ceiling fan.

Using Google there are guys out there that repair these - have you tried any of them as a resource. I found the schematics on the attached link using Google. They were referenced as Paidar but ???

Bullmack.

Thank you so much. I have searched for hours and found nothing as far as schematics and have been told that they didn't exist for Paidar chairs.

I have been in touch with a few of the restorers in search of parts and information. Unfortunately most of the firms that advertise this kind of work are located on the east coast.

You have saved me many hours of trying to figure out how it all works.

Thanks again.

Bob

It's got to be some kind of rack and pawl arrangement. Take it apart (a digital camera can be your best friend here) and see what makes it work. Watch out for springs under tension though.

Amazing; the depth of things we have in different interests and how they seem to come together.

Hats' off to Bullmack!

Instead of seeking barber chair information on a *GUN* forum, wouldn't it make more sense to seek such information on a *barber chair* forum? Such as:

Antique Barber Chairs Forum

Also, see

Thanks RC. I was thinking on those same lines.

Cowart. Been to that forum with no luck. I did get a response on the SWCA side of the forum from a member that has a collection of eight barber chairs.

Regards.

Bob
