Default Bought my first revolver

I am pretty new to guns still and have probably only owned for the past 2 years. I am only 23. Well I went to the gun show this weekend looking into buying my first revolver. I really was interested in a .357 magnum. I didn't really find much there that I could afford. Or at least nothing I could feel comfortable spending. I was even considering buying a cheap Rossi from Academy Sports But this morning I came home from work (I work overnight) and saw someone had just posted to Craigslist a Dan Wesson 15-2 I don't think I got the best deal seeing what some people valued it in another thread on here, but I didn't pay too much more than what some people thought it was worth, and I got 50rds of hollow points. In the end I am happy, and I probably only spent a little more than what the Rossi would have been OTD

It's a little beat up, and I didn't wipe the gun before these pictures, but here it is:

OK. For a Shooter is Dan Wesson just fine. But I can not see your pictures.

I updated the pictures. I am just planning to shoot it, no collectors value in it for me. And with it being my first revolver I was not looking for anything too pricey or fancy.

Looking great. I do have a model 15. It is in my collection. Shot it once, it preformed well.
Do have a lot of fun with your revolver.

One of few regrets in my gun universe, is that I didn't buy the complete Dan Wesson target revolver kit with 4 barrels and tools etc.

Default Looks fine...

If you are happy with the gun for what you paid for it, that's all that counts.

Now let me tell you about the S&W mod 586/686.......

You better go get a second job soon! The itch only gets worse. I've bought four in October alone. The last was a 357 magnum which I picked up today. I missed out on a couple of Colts recently because I couldn't decide if I needed them or just wanted them.

Good luck with your first of many....

need has absolutely nothing to do with it when buying guns. want is a good enough reason.

Me too.

I didn't get one of these sets because it seemed weird, even though I liked the Dan Wesson.

Now I really wish I had…. Ah, youth...

Yep. Seriously though, I am thinking of the second job. I am supposed to be saving up for a move beginning of next year and this definitely ate into some of my savings. I actually have a S&W SD9VE, a Ruger mkiii 22/45, a Remington 700, and a Mosin Nagant 91/30. All relatively inexpensive guns, but im familar with the itch.

I recently made a thread about being screwed out of a trade where a guy said he'd trade me my Remington 700 for his Springfield Mil-spec 1911. He took the 1911 to the gun show and sold it after the agreement. So I got that itch for a 1911 and put an RIA 1911 on layaway at Bud's. If I can help it though, I will use the whole 90 days to pay it off. But I really am thinking of selling the Remington 700, so hopefully that will help me get back on track with my savings. For now I guess I have to compromise.

I am thinking of picking up a seasonal job as a second because right now I am only working 32 hours. I go to school and I cut my hours down because I thought school and work would be hard but my classes are pretty easy so far and I could handle more work.

My revolver addiction started out harmless. First it was a 460V. Because... Well... Just because...

Then I wanted... No, I needed, MORE.. If I went a month without a new one, I'd binge the following month.

I'm better now since rehab, but Lord help me if I see a 5" 625 in .45 Colt...

OP- you can check the Dan Wesson forum for all the info you need on that gun. Very interesting grip, I wonder who made it, I dont think its factory. You can add different length barrels if you want.

Excellent gun, my first revolver was a Dan Wesson. It was an earlier fixed sight model that I traded later for a 15-2 DW. They sure knew how to blue a gun. I wish I still had the first one, though.

There's a difference?

To op. Welcome to the revolver world. That's a nice piece you have there. Bought my first a few months back the S&W .500 and am already looking into a 686.

Congratulations to the OP on his first revolver. I think he did pretty good for his first time. My first revolver wasn't even close to that good. In fact I refuse to say what it was so y'all won't feel sorry for me.

But his thread got me to thinking. Be 70 in June and I expect that a lot of guys in my age bracket started out in their gun lives with revolvers just like I did. The technology, engineering, design and over all quality for semi autos were still in in their infancy. My only experience with one was the govt model 1911 I was issued in the service in 1966. I could throw rocks more accurately than I could shoot that thing.

As quality improved I became more and more interested in them. The clincher was my friends early model Colt Gold Cup. The first time I shot it I beat my performance with my own revolver. From that point on all my gun purchases were semi autos. Lots of trigger time and ammo resulted in drastically increased performance on my part.

Fast forward to 2010. By then the arthritis in my hands was beginning to effect my ability to operate the controls on all my pistols. I decided to move back to revolvers until/unless I could get some improvement in my condition.

I wanted something in a .44 spl. I really wanted an N-frame S&W very badly. I looked the hill over and couldn't find the gun/deal I needed. An FFL friend of mine called me as asked me if I'd be interested in a 3" .357 mag that he was selling. This guy knows me very well and I didn't think he'd offer me something that I didn't want. It had belonged to his wife and had only about 100 rounds through it. She moved to a small 9mm semi auto and didn't want the revolver any longer. I told him to kick it under the couch I was coming right over.

It turned out to be a Ruger SP-101 Stainless Steel. Excellent condition and he let me have it for 300 bux. and threw in a couple of boxes of hollow point ammo. Took it to the range and with in a few rounds I was back in love with the revolver. I mean I was really diggin' this gun!!! Good weight and balance and accurate too. What's not to love. I especially liked the trigger. Firing single action or doubled action it was superb.

Well, I still didn't have my .44 spl but I DID have a terrific .357 mag. So I got a couple of speed loaders and a pouch for them and I'm all set to carry my new revolver.

But wait....

About 2 weeks later I got the opportunity to get a 3" S&W by Lew Horton. N-Frame 24-3 in blued steel with combat wooden grips and all. The guy was in another town but we met in the middle and did the deal. It didn't bother me one bit to make the 160 mild round trip. Now I have my .44 spl and I'm happy as a clam. My wife isn't quite that happy but she eventually got over it.

After a few rounds with my big beautiful .44 I'm more in love with revolvers than ever before. What a great gun. It is a beauty and a shooter. When I'm lookin' at it I'm wishin' I was shootin' it and when I'm shootin' it I'm wishin' I was lookin' at it. Just can't leave it alone.

I soon had 2 speed loaders w/carry pouch and custom leather for both of my revolvers and to this day they are in the rotation of guns I carry. I had a little surgery and my problem with the arthritis turned out to be a blood calcium imbalance and is okay now. No pain meds anymore and I'm sleepin' all night again. Hands are as good as new, almost. But I will never forsake my revolvers again.

I know there are a lot of great semi autos out there. I have a few of them myself but the fact is that there will always be a place in the gun world for quality revolvers. Never again will I be without my two. I love 'em both. I shoot 'em both. I carry 'em both.

OP, you can be proud of your first revolver. You don't have to hang your head to anyone or any gun. Ya done good!

A friend of mine bought one in .41 magnum about 30 years ago. I thought why buy that when you can get a real S&W? And what the heck is a .41 magnum?

To the OP, I think you did fine. I hate to think of all the guns I paid too much for or sold for too little. But you got what you wanted and that's all that matters.
