Carved Stocks...the best of the BEST!
Carved stocks are traditional embellishments on handguns. We've all seen grips carved with eagles, steers, snakes and ranch brands but have you ever wondered what carving would look like if price was not a consideration? Several years ago I was asked to write a letter of recommendation to the INS in support of an artistic visa for an Australian engraver/carver. I've long forgotten his name but I've contacted some folks to help me recall. He did ultimately get his visa and is living and working here in the US. Here is an example of his carving. If anyone has seen better I'd love to see them. The bad news is these grips billed at $3,500.00!
Please notice the fine checkering UNDER the one piece carving!

I have no words to describe the work and talent that went into that. WOW!!!
I do like that he went "out side of the lines". Very creative touch.

$3500 for a masterpiece is not too bad in today's world.
Those grips are incredible and the artist's ability is amazing.

Astonishing and lovely. And easily worth the asking price. I've never seen anything close to the quality of that work.

I wish I had that kind of money, because that would be worth it.

The artist's name is Damien Connolly. Here is a link to his bio, it's really worth a look.

I don't see how a person can truly appreciate something like that until they've tried to make something by hand themselves.

Greg nailed it. We all can appreciate his work but until you actually try it for yourself you can't appreciate it to the fullest. 30 years ago I asked a knife maker friend to put a satin finish on a Randall knife. He said no...but he would show me how to do it. DAMN! I spent four days and went through six grades of fine sandpaper and he STILL had to finish it for me. I've never looked at a hand finished knife the same.
