Just wondered if your PA cc license is somehow liked to your drivers license so that if you were pulled over the LEO would know you also have a cc license?

Does it work this way in any states?

Not according to the LEO's I've talked to , including my local Chief of Police.

Pretty sure in Texas the CC is linked to your license plates, so they do know you have a CC license when they pull you over. I don't know how fast or up to date their records are, but I suspect in these days of computers it is pretty easy to do.

And if the driver is not the registered owner?

I guess it depends on if he stole it or not?

In Arkansas if you are stopped you are supposed to hand them your CCW along with your DL license, this was not so for at least 10 years and I was stopped and the lady took my DL ancame back to the car and asked to see my CCL and stated that I was supposed to give both licenses I asked when this came into effect and she says about three years ago, their was never anything from the state to the holders of the CCL. The picture on my CCL is the same picture thats on my DL so they are connected in some states. Jeff

It never was linked to DMV info in NYS,,maybe it's a recent addition but I haven't heard anyone mention it.

Having your tags enshrined in matching 'This Vehicle Insured by Smith & Wesson' license plate frames may give them a pretty good hint though.

In Tennessee they are definately linked. Both are issued by The Department of Safety (State Troopers) and both even have the same ID number. The Trooper knows you have a Handgun Permit as soon as he runs your tags.

They are in Michigan. My cousin got busted for not informing an officer he had his pistol in the car after they ran his license. He lost his carry permit for 6 months over it.
I tell my wife to be prepared to answer whether she is carrying if stopped and keep her hands in plain sight should she get stopped as the vehicles are in my name and I have a permit but she doesn't.

As Brian noted they are linked in Michigan. In my case I strongly suspect it worked to my benefit on one occasion, because Michigan has rather high standards on who gets a permit.

I was a bit "lazy" about slowing down entering a contruction zone on I-75 once and just coasting down. The state trooper had me dead to rights at 68 in a 60 mph construction area and pulled out an followed me closely for 2 or 3 miles. Finally I say to myself "time to take your lumps" and pull onto the shoulder to stop and that trooper pulled even, honked his horn, then he shook his finger at me and drove on. IMO what he found out when he radioed in was that I was a CPL holder and had a spotless driving record so he let me off with a warning. BTW, lesson learned and I now brake for construction zones.

PA License to Carry Firearms is not linked to the PA Department of Motor Vehicles drivers license. PA is also not a "must inform" state. If the LEO does not ask if you are carrying or have an LCTF then you are under no obligation to tell.

In Arkansas when we request a DL check the return information will indicate if the subject in question has a CCL.

As far as providing your CCL to an officer during a traffic stop in Arkansas, here is what the law actually says:


5-73-315. Possession of license -- Identification of licensee.

(a) Any licensee possessing a valid license issued pursuant to this subchapter may carry a concealed handgun.

(b) The licensee shall:

(1) Carry the license, together with valid identification, at any time when the licensee is carrying a concealed handgun; and

(2) Display both the license and proper identification upon demand by a law enforcement officer.

Yes I already am a member there and a couple other places but this is the only place I do more than just lurk. Most other places are a train wreck.

I don't know but I've been told that in MA they can find out if they specifically ask, but generally don't. MA does not require notification, and at least one state trooper stated that he would wonder about someone who brought up the subject unasked.

Missouri has changed and taken any CCW info from state, as it was found out the state was giving info to feds on CCW issued by Dept. of Revenue...Now all CCW license are handled by county sheriff...

I know that they are linked to the Driver's License, as I have been stopped and not carrying, and the LEO has asked. There is no requirement to inform a LEO that you are NOT carrying, only that you are. After the first time, I would just advise, that I have a CPL, but I am not 'carrying'. Eliminates the surprise factor.

I don't believe they are linked to the license plate/registration, but that would be something to check out for sure.

Only if you've got a vanity plate that reads, "GLOCKEM".
