Retired Exactly One Day
And the LGS offers me a part-time job.
I got up this morning, had a Dr's appointment, went to the range to pop off a few then stopped by the local gun shop. I sauntered in, announced my retirement and the manager shakes my hand and won't let go. "Come into my office."
"I need someone I can trust to help out a couple hours a day. You're smart, friendly and easy-going. Hell, you're here all the time anyway, you may as well get paid for it."
Minimum wage, flexible hours and as few or as many hours as I want to work. And a deep employee discount - which could turn into a remake of the time I worked in a beer/wine store. I probably still owe them money.
Luscious is all in favor of it. It'll give me a break from taking care of her as well as giving her a break from having me around. I've gotta think on it a few days before I commit, but it sounds like a sweet deal.

Gee, let me think. First crack at any collectible guns that come in. Naa, I'll pass.

After the Oilers beat us by a touchdown Tuesday (7-0)?
I'm gonna be mad at them for a very long time.

Sometimes we go decades and finally it comes, have to stick with the old home teams.

My wife had a job like that at her favorite clothing store just after we were married. Every two weeks she had to pay them... She swore it was saving us money.
Enjoy your retirement!

I'd take it even though you'll probably end up losing money on that deal. I know I would if I had a job like that. I'd probably snatch up most of the third generation semis that came in the door.

Good for you -- semi-retired and reduced guns and ammo costs. Now, do they sell booze too,

For me, that would be a dangerous situation. I'm retired, ie drawing social security, but I still work about 60 hours a week. Keeps me out of gun shops and out of trouble. I have formed a couple of bad habits over the years: I enjoy eating, and I like to live indoors. If I could shake those two habits I could probably really retire.

That would be like me being in an adult dance club and being offered the job of new employee evaluation/selection.
And I am unemployed and available.

I'm sure if you look around you will be able to find a much better position than working part-time in a 'gun store'. Wow what will you tell your friends when they ask what you're doing. Where do you live? I could take that spot for you..I don't have any freinds to worry about!!
Congrats

A retired friend of mine went to work at a LGS. Never took home a penny. His entire paycheck always went to pay his in store account. Finally quit because he couldn't afford to work there anymore.
I retire next July.
Hmmmm............

Congrats on your retirement, enjoy b/c you earned it. As to the offer really your call. I had a similar offer but had to decline b/c I cannot stand up for very long, but I'd still like to work there.

I retired in '08. In '09 I started p/t at a LGS, stayed a couple of years and now am at a different LGS/Range. Do about 30 hrs/wk. And work with my former Detective partner and another old retired Deputy.
We have fun.
Plus, I've been able to 'accumulate' stuff I'd otherwise never even get to see, let alone buy.

Congratulations on your retirement. Sounds like it would be a good way to spend a few hours a week. You could always move on if you don't like it.
I still have 3 years before I can hang it up.

God bless you for making it through to retirement blu.
I've had offers to from owners and managers to work at many shops I frequent; gun shops, guitar shops, lawn and garden stores, etc. Problem is I still have my own business to run! I'm always tempted but just don't have time.

DON'T DO IT -- RUN AWAY ! ! ! !
I had a part-time job in a gun shop 18 years ago. Worked there 18 months and only lost $750 from my full-time paycheck PLUS every dime I earned at the gun shop. Financially it was my worst job, but the fringe benefits, employee discounts, first crack at all the S&W used revolvers. Deer rifles are real cheap February to June.
And then there are the very knowledgeable people that walk in the door. Don't expect much take-home pay but the stories will be great!
Congratulations -- retirement and dream job.

I would love that. I won't be eligible for retirement for about 10 years yet, but I don't think I could take it if I didn't have some kind of job to go to. A gun store would be fun to work at.
My sister and her family live in Columbus. Which gun store?
