Default Comet Ison gone?

The science part of the BBC news website is reporting that comet Ison has probably been destroyed as it passed close to the Sun. Bit of a shame as I was looking forward to seeing another "Great Comet" like we had in 1997.

Click on photo gallery on this page. The newest photos posted show something that looks like the comet appearing to get past the sun.

Hmm. Is that the comet or a smear of its tail carried by momentum? Time will tell.

As of 2117 Pacific, the latest pictures show that something emerged from behind the Sun but they are unsure how much of the comet survived. We shall see what the experts say over the next few days.

Default It seems that.....

It seems that SOMETHING survived the encounter. Maybe it will tell us something and maybe we'll even be able to see it soon.

Don't count it as gone just yet.

Too many things could have happened during the close approach that might have resulted in a much reduced display as it became visible again, and the latest reports are that the tail is brightening once more. Give it a couple of days to settle down before making any predictions.
