Default What was your first car? What is your current car?

I bought a 1991 Eagle Summit 3-door hatch with stick. That car got 35-40 miles per gallon and never gave me a lick of trouble. Got it for college and loved to go to class last minute because the spot with the concrete lamp post was always empty - all the other cars were too big and stuck out - I could take four large steps and walk from the driver door around back to passenger door. A little cramped when driving my friends but loved that car.

I remember upgrading to a Chevy Cavalier and felt like I was driving a huge Cadillac. Now I drive a Silverado Extended Cab and all cars are tiny to me.

What did you start out with and what do you drive now?

1948 Chevrolet Stylemaster with a busted block. I had to haul water around to keep it replenished. Jumped out of high gear. No muffler, but I wired a piece of rusted-up 4" well screen over the exhaust pipe. Every time I geared down to slow down, it blew rust out of the well casing and got louder.

I drive a 2003 Chevrolet 2500HD pickup now.

1964 Corvair Monza Red on red on red!

2003 Mercury Sable. The soft vinyl is peeling off the door panels and Ford says they cannot fix it. Otherwise it's been a good car.

1st car was a 50 Ford sedan, 3 of us pooled our money for the $50 it cost us. The radiator leaked so bad we had to drive with the wipers on the way home (didn't have a hood either). 2 bottles of BarsLeak later, no problem. We drove that for the summer and sold it at a profit. Current vehicle is a 2014 Subaru Forester, the wife has a 2010 Toyota FJ Cruiser. Not much into car stuff anymore except my 1947 CJ2A Jeep and it's bone stock.

The summer of 1961 I turned 17 and I bought a '36 Ford Coupe. Paid 35 dollars for it. It was a fixer-upper. I fixed it up some but never could get up the money to do all that I wanted to do to it. I spent all my money getting/keeping it running and keeping tires on it and gas and oil in it and wasn't able to do much about it cosmetically.

Still It was a lot of fun and I got very popular after I got it. Lots of good memories in that old beater. I'll never forget it.

First car was a two year old, mint 1959 Impala two door hard top, with a 348 CI engine. It was all power, automatic, and loaded for that time. It was baby blue with white trim and blue interior. That baby would fly, but I only got 10 MPH with it. I bought it at age 16 with money from working after school and that I got from the sale of my motorcycle.

Today I have two PU trucks, a 1997 Silverado extended cab that is loaded, and a basic 1998 F-150 with heater, A/C and radio. The Silverado rides like a car, and the F-150 is all truck.

I have never owned a vehicle that the manufacture date begins with a 2.

1966 Ford Fairlane 2 door hard top, rebuilt from a wreck. By the time I was finished with it, it had a 302 instead of the original 289 and a 1968 interior, instead of the 1966. It helps that my dad owned an auto salvage yard. I treated cars as kids now treat Legos. I made a lot of my own creations.

My current "car" is a 2006 Toyota Tundra. I bought it used in 2008 as a dealer demo.

Very first car was a hand-me-down 1967 bug that had 300k+ miles on it. It had dropped a valve so dad said... Here ya go son, your first car.

Took the engine out and seen what we needed. Bought two used heads, one used piston, new rings and a gasket set. A friend and I and two cases of beer later, we took that beetle for a test ride up and down the street at 4AM. Dad came wandering out... could not believe it.

I drive a Toyota Tundra.

I tried to buy a '36 Buick when I was 16 but my parents wouldn't let me. Bill, I envy you yours!

So I actually spent my first two years driving a '53 Nash Ambassador. Another tank, but one with a diminished turning radius because of the body metal that covered the fender wells. What a bad idea! Every U-turn was a back and fill operation.

These days I am usually in my new Toyota FJ Cruiser that I am just enjoying the heck out of. The mechanical stable also includes a 15-year old F150 4x4 for hauling bigger stuff. Even in retirement I need to do that from time to time. Either of these vehicles is suitable for off-road exploring and remote camping, which I hope to do more of in years to come.

That old 10-foot Alaskan used to ride in the bed of an F250 4x4 that I no longer have. It's just for storage now.

Bought Ford Model A in 1950 for $50 from the feed store. Was worth more in metal junk value. Just bought a 2014 Ford Escape, a really neat little vehicle.

First was a 1967 Ford Fairlane four door with a 289 V-8. My grandmother moved in with us and could no longer drive. She gave me her car when I got my learner's permit, so long as I drove her where she wanted to go.

Current is a 1998 F-150 extended cab with a 4.6 Lt V-8, basically a modernized version of the old 289.

I love those little Ford V-8s.

1955 Chevy Coupe. The previous owner had pulled out the 6 cylinder and the power glide and replaced them with Corvette 283 and 4 barrel. He installed a manual 3 on the floor tranny. The car was ten years old when I bought it.

Oddly, my newest vehicle, a 2003 Expedition, is also 10 years old. I don't drive it much. 77,000 miles on it. Wife has a 98 CRV that she drives daily. My daily driver is a 95 Sonoma.

First was a 1982 Mustang GT with the 302 HO and a four speed. I was the envy of all my neighborhood buddies with that thing. Got my fair share of tickets, and also won my fair share of races back in the day. Current is a 2006 Ford Ranger XL regular cab with four cylinder and five speed. Also have a 1999 Corvette coupe that I keep for hard times.

Mine was a 54 Studebaker V8 3spd OD. 2 pmts of $25. I kept it down the street in a vacant lot for a couple of months, so my mom wouldn't know till I turned 16. The mtr mounts were bad ,and the dist cap some time bumped the firewall and knocked the tip off of the rotor. In a fine bit of engineering, I jammed a small loop of bare copper wire in the end of the old rotor. It was just flexable enough to not break. Those were the days.

My brother bought a brand new Toyota 4Runner in 89 when he joined the service. He had that car in all his stations including Hawaii, Texas, Arkansas and North Carolina and has over 100k miles on it. It is still his current car. Now that is dedication.

Have you seen the McDonalds commercial with Master and Student? They get set to drive off in either a Plymouth Horizon or a Dodge Omni. Anyone know the year? I had a Horizon that was nearly identical but I don't remember the year. Sadly my last manual shift.

The first car I drove was the family wagon, a '54 Ford Country Sedan, cream with maroon trim around the windows.

The first I bought with my own money was a 1957 MGA roadster. It was just a 1500 then. I tried to drive it out to California for college, but it blew up on I94 just outside Medora, ND. I rebuilt it and traded it it for my first motorcycle.

Now I drive a '94 Ranger, 2WD, 4cyl. Parked in my yard is a middle-aged BMW sedan that ran when I parked it, but will now need considerable work to get it going. It's all work I would have done readily at one time, but I don't crawl around under cars so well any more.

Bought my 1992 Chevy Silverado extended cab the DAY I turned 16 for $2,100 in Las Vegas from my Dad's contracting friend. It was in rough shape, but I loved it! 165,000, I replaced a few parts and tuned her up. Drove it for a year before I sold it in Utah for $2,500 haha.
Currently driving a 2001 Ram Dakota, I like it a lot! It's not the Tacoma I want, but I don't make Tacoma money yet.
BTW when I started driving gas was $1.83 a gallon (2004)

My first car was a 1970 Dodge Super Bee. It ran like ****, so I bought it cheap ($200). My brother was a mechanic and he found that the plug wires were hooked up to the distributer cap incorrectly (wrong firing order). We fixed this and it ran great. We decided to install some larger heads, crane cam, and big Carter carb. This ran great, but changing the heads blew my oil rings. It smogged like a mosquito fogger. LOL. I hit a dead end with it doing about 60 mph and totaled it. We were lucky to walk away from that one.

Current cars are a 2012 Mazda 6 (made in Michigan), 2004 Toyota Sienna mini-van, 2010 Dodge Challenger (supercharged), and a 1962 Chevy C10 pickup which was my Grandfather's.

My first car was a Toyota Celica, back in 1977. My current daily driver is a 07 Miata 6 speed with lot wered suspension and upgraded sway bars. Lots of fun on twisty secondary roads but not so much fun in I-95 bumper-to-bumper rush hour traffic.

And then there's the wife's CRV and the F150 for hauling the horse trailer.

The year was 1955, the end of my freshman year in high school. My first was a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline Sedan. Had a blast growing up in that beauty and it served me for many trouble free miles. Now drive a pristine 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD crew-cab diesel. Still having a blast driving my Chevys!

1942 studebaker commander. The other day when I paid for a fill up at circle K I complained to the kid the tank of gas cost more than my first couple cars. I just got a blank stare. Today we own a 2,007 toyota avalon for road trips that we aint been takeing and I have a 2000 GMC extended cab step side that just stays hooked up with a trailer for our ATV rides and mostly we drive theresas 2001 extended cab silverado. The avalon is the only car I ever bought new. Have bought new a 85 4wd ford ranger, a 72 datsun PU and a 1992 GMC. 20 or 30 clunkers in between.

First was a 59 VW. Great car..no radio, no heater, not even a gas gauge. It had a lever on the floor you flipped with your foot to open the reserve tank. That would be enough to get me to the gas station. Now I drive an 05 Honda CRV.

'64 Monza. Not my first car but one of the funnest. Known by my friends as "The Corvair from Hell" to this day.

My first driver was a '71 Pinto. 2000cc milled head, Cam and Carb. conversion to non progressive two barrel. I beat up quite a few V8's with that little terror.

My current ride is a '04 GMC, Bone stock with 50k on it. I love it.

First was a '63 chevy SS 327, dark metallic blue. I worked my rear off to buy it wrecked. My dad had a body shop owner that owed him a big favor. I was so glad to get out of my grandad's '56 Plymouth.
Now I've been in a '94 Ford 3/4 ton forever (332,000 miles). I want a new truck, but this one just won't break.

First was a 1929 Chrysler 75 Royal 4 Dr. sedan ( in 1964 ). The photo of this car is about 30 years after I last owned it and has since been fully restored by the current owner.

My current transportation is a 2005 Chrysler 300 Limited 4 Dr. sedan.

I guess what goes around comes around

My first car was a 1968 Chrysler Newport. That car was a block and a half long and was the only automatic transmission car I ever owned.
Now I'm driving a 2009 Toyota Tacoma 4wd access cab. The 4wd came in handy driving home today.

First car I owned was a 1955 Mercury convertible. I never drove it on the street. Then I bought a 1930 Model A Ford coupe. Never drove it either, but Dad and I traded for a 1956 Ford Fairlane (4 DR). It had the Thunderbird 312 engine. Today I drive a 2008 Infiniti G37S coupe.

My first car was a 1956 Dodge Custom Royal 2 door coupe, with a 315 Red Ram engine and a push button automatic. The back seat was so big you thought you were sitting in the living room couch!
After many years and many cars which were Oldsmobile's, which really Pi**ed me off when GM first screwed up the brand and then did away with them!
I just purchased a 2010 Chrysler 300 C, first car I've owned in a long time that really impressed me!
