.....all the class clowns descending on me. What determines and how is the difference described between "square" butt and "round" butt configurations on my 642 and 342 snub nosed revolvers?

No such thing as a stupid question.
Serious answer this time but you've used up yer quota
If you have a 642 or a 342 you have a round but as they didn't make these two revolvers (or any J magnum frame revolvers for that matter) in a square grip configuration.

I dunno...seems like a stupid question to me or is it some kind of mystical zen thing grasshopper? At least it's not about a chocolate lad or someone wanting to talk shogun.

and if you want to simulate a sq butt get some j frame round to square conversion grips.

Pretty good so far.... two semi-serious answers. Can't last much longer.

Initially I didn't understand the question so I guess that makes me the class clown. When I'm not sure which one I have I remove the grips.

Round or square butt?
It depends on how well you know her.

Sorry, I just couldn't resist.
Let the games begin!

How about a picture is worth a thousand words.

The first photo is a square butt L, frame the second two photos are of a ROUND butt K frame.

Hope this helps.

Are you sure you did't put one too many letters in the post when you mentioned "class clowns" ?

All these pictures. Here's one, a SB turned RB, but not quite. I don't think there was a standard template for this work when Austin Behlert did this one.

Now that response from CAJUNLAWYER has me very, very nervous. I've seen him turn his perverted, dark, twisted, mind to nefarious deeds and schemes in the past. I can only hope he forgets my name and goes on to persecute others.

Very simple: the round butt presents, in profile, a pleasing, rounded appearance that some feel fits the hand better. A square butt sticks out more in the back (especially near the bottom), which some say provides better leverage to your grip...

I had a few square butts. They aren't all they're cracked up to be.
