Default Gun Safe Moisture Protection - Multitasking Electrician Needed!

I have been considering adding a couple Class 6 safes for handgun and other stuff storage.

Here is the thread on that;

Convert A Class 6 File To A Pistol Safe?

The GoldenRod Original Dehumidifiers cost $35 to $45 each.

Two of those could cost me $90!

So I got to thinking (problems ALWAYS happen when I do that).

The GoldenRod only dissipates 2/3 to 1 watt per inch. A 12 inch rod will only consume 8 watts.

Obviously there is not much heat needed to protect the contents.

What do I have laying around that dissipates around 8 watts?

How about a power supply?

I must have a dozen of them laying around, they have the small plug-in so the cord will fit through a small hole. Hmmm,,

Plug one in and feel it after an hour, it is warm, even if doing nothing.

In the news, they call this phantom power loss.

Should you focus on phantom power losses? - Schneider Electric Blog

That brings us to multi-tasking!! If I select the correct one, the inside could be wired for low voltage lighting.

WOOT!! I could see what is in the safe.

Lights would not be so important in a file, but, they would be REALLY nice in a regular gun safe.!

I got a wattmeter, I will plug in one of these power supplies and see just what wattage is consumed.

So, what do you think? Any downsides?

Any other uses for low voltage in the safe?

I learned about multi-tasking from watching Alton Brown's cooking show, I now hate uni-taskers!!
