I sure liked the way that "victim" reacted. I read somewhere else even the police had a hard time with him in the car. He tried kicking out the cruisers windows. Some might say the victim could have got killed but you cant deny it worked!

The style of bus didn't look familiar... the facing seats on the Metro busses up here are usually benches. Could have been one of the commuter busses that runs between Everett and Seattle though. The ones that run south usually don't have facing seats like that.

All of which really makes no difference. We've been seeing a spike in crime on the metro busses up here over the past couple years, usually assaults and strong arm robberies. It ain't real safe to ride them! As far as the passengers reaction, it looked like he grabbed the gun and pulled it toward him. That could get you shot, particularly with the Glock the punk was carrying. Push it up and away, control the arm, and choke the punk till he passes out....woulda been my move anyways....

Default I wonder...

...how that gun didn't accidentally go off and shoot the gunman? Good for the riders!

Victim definitely took a chance. I'm not sure you can count on strangers to help you out which appears to be the case here. Nice outcome though.

Looks like a bunch of nerd thugs ganging up on the one guy, proof that he needed the gun for self defense (not that it did him any good).

Default AN AWFULL BIG RISK FOR A PHONE

BUT glad nobody got hurt & the thief got caught. I don't care how smart your phone is, it isn't worth your life. Want some MM quarterbacking, hand it over then cold cock him when his back is turned. Like the John Wayne movie, "but you hit him when he wasn't looking". "Yes maam, just as hard as I could".

Sadly, here in Corpus most likely you will not get any help. Ive seen a few situations where some jerk was punching or threatening to hit the female w/ him. Every time, I would see the lemmings just watching and sating somebody ought to do something. Every one of those times, there were at least 15 others there besides the jerk, the woman and I. Each time, I was the only one doing something about it w/ no offer of help from any of them, or even words.

Case in point. I was at the Staples/Alameda Station==normally called Six Points, and was about 5 days till Christmas 2012. I originally got on bus 29, rode to six points to get 19, to take home. Well, the punk im talking about threatening his wife? cursing her and threatening to hut her even making motions to do so, and not one of about 40 SHEEPLE on that bus--said anything--the driver dropped the ball. I would have called dispatch==had I been the driver-he saw and heard what was going on--did nothing.

I would have called the Police as well as the bus company--but did not have me phone with me. I went up to the driver telling him what ha already saw. All I got from him was a simple: "It will work itself out" or something just as stupid as that.

Anyway, a bunch of us offloaded to get the next 19--or about a 25 minute wait since we just missed the other 19. Well, we were all sitting waiting and the loud mouth started on the lady again. I saw several people looking at the jerk saying==gosh--------why doesnt someone say or do something? I glared at that ""lady"" thinking that why doesnt she--or someone else call the police w/ their phones?

In the meantime, said jerk was pacing around threatening to hit the lady w/ him motioning to do so and also telling everyone how tough he was. I got fed up, stood up as he motioned to punch that lady--w/ a male sitting right there who only turned his radio louder and turned his back on the lady. As I started walking towards where the lady was sitting, the guy started walking away still saying how tough he was.

I purposely stood about 5 feet from the lady--when he walked back up and threatened to hit her-saying he can do what he wishes w/ her. My blood was boiling and when he tried to slap her, I grabbed his arm and bluntly told him that if he threatened her in front of me again-or hit her, that I was going to beat the **** out of him. Suddenly he wasnt as tough as he thought he was.

During all of this, not one of those other lemmings did anything but stare and listen. We still had a few minutes before 19 arrived, and I angrily told them all, at how disappointed I was in them and that they were all worthless as human beings. 19 arrived, all of us got on-minus the jerk and the lady. Before we took off, I told that driver what happened and he really didnt want to do anything either till I said ill be in touch with Jerry, one of the "big boys" in charge at the bus company. He called in to dispatch who said they will contact the police and as we drove away, that sorry puke punched the lady on her right side.

No doubt poor Trevonnte was shocked that this happened in the very liberal city of Seattle. I would have thought there were laws against resisting being robbed there.

I mean he could expect such rude treatment in Dallas, or Montana, or Arizona, but in Seattle? I guess it was just not his day. LOL

Unless the intended victim seen the guy coming out of the corner of his eye and was playing possum for a surprise move, (and I dont think he was) it looked like a totally natural reaction to me. On top of that, had he, as A10 said, his move would have been different. Anyway, thank God it turned out to be the right move.

the crime rate in Seattle is going up at a rapid pace, which is why I now CC when I rarely go into the big city...I worked the waterfront in Seattle for 30 years and never felt uncomfortable downtown...not anymore...I won't even stay after dark around Pioneer square or Pike Place market...Seattle has become a big city with all the problems that come with it ...the hip, slick and cool people can have it

Couple observations;
1. At the beginning; note the girl trying to waft the #@%! smell away from her face. Guess what lady - the bus always smells like that.
2. IMHO - Given that they overtook him, I'm confused how he was still alive when the police got there?
3. More of sidebar - does anybody know if those headphone cords that everybody on that bus was wearing are strong enough to strangle someone?

Edit: oh, OH, they should have recruited the individual who produced the 'item' being wafted by the girl at the beginning of the video, and had him, or her, sit on the criminal and 'blast' him!

I found it interesting that when you watch the intended victim lunge at the thief the victim "smoothly" slides his phone into his sweater pocket while pressing his attack.

That WAS interesting. I would think I would have been using both of my hands, and the heck with the phone.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and posit that the would-be mugger's firearm either wasn't loaded, or not a an actual firearm. With all that scuffling, one would think it would have had the trigger pulled once or twice.

IMHO, the only way it could have gone better would have been the requirement of a cavity search to find the perp's weapon.

Yeah, that'll go well, Sparky.

Nope...and everyone on the bus seems to be wearing them.
Very little situational awareness around here.

Truth is there are still one or two native Warshintonians around, and we are a different lot from the transients that have moved here. And there's more folks CCW-ing here than you might think (we are a Shall Issue state).

What language do they speak up there?

"Overtake"? Like he was running away and they chased him down and caught him?

The perp was walking around the bus brandishing his gun and nobody seemed to even notice it. Like was said above, there is no situational awareness.

I won't go over to Seattle anymore unless I have to. 15 years ago we would take the ferry from Bremerton and walk to Key Arena to see a 7:00 p.m. hockey game and walk back to the ferry at 10:30 at night and felt perfectly safe. No more.

I grew up here and we never locked doors or took the keys out of cars. Now when I go back to visit the old neighborhood (Columbia City for those who are familiar with the area) my normal CC isn't enough, I usually take the AR along. Most of the store signs remind me of Saigon. . The only time I go downtown is when I have to go to the hospital for a procedure (like today). I get out as fast as I can.

Tempting to say the victim needlessly risked getting shot over a phone, but there's no guarantee that he wouldn't have been plugged even if he cooperated. My wife's cousin owned a convenience store. Two guys came in one night and robbed him. He handed over the cash, gave them everything they wanted, whereupon they shot him and his employee to death. You just never know.

Its probably been since the 60s that Columbia City was safe to walk in at night. Its getting a little better, yuppies have discovered it....

I left in 1968, it was getting a little strange then. (of course just about everything was a little strange in '68)

This incident just proves it is better to have it (a firearm) and not need it than need it and not have it. Also this incident shows there really is a very fine line between bravery and stupidity.

Only for arguments sake, identical situation. Someone sticks a pistol up your nostril but you have a pistol of your own under your shirt. Your sitting down, get surprised and are hemmed in by a human mass of women, strangers etc. He did just fine. Just wonder what the results would have been if he was armed. Hopefully taxpayers there wouldnt be paying for his trial or cost of putting him a petting zoo or paying his welfare when he got out. Could have went the other way too.

Victim seemed to react as a last minute thing as he appeared to not be paying attention to the guy walking around with the gun. That's one reason I try and not use my phone in public places as it distracts you.
If the victim or others had a gun perhaps they could have reacted to the guy with the gun before he used it but again they could have thought he might be an LEO and had reason to have his gun out.
I'm glad it worked out the way it did but goes to show you such things happen fast and you don't get much time to react.

I know "Marshwheeling" meant to be funny. But the sad part is, the rats lawyer may actually try that as a defense. The sadder part is, given the proper jury it could work.

Bingo. I was in fact wearing my defense lawyer hat when I came up with that, but totally tongue in cheek. But that is why we have plea bargaining. Defense only has to sell that story to one juror.
