They're calling for 11 degrees here in South/Middle GA Tuesday.
Ain't s'posed to get that cold here.
Hasn't been that cold here in at least 10, maybe 20 years.
I predict busted blocks and frozen pipes.
Hope none of them are mine.

There have been a few threads on this lately. It seems that the weather coverage has become tabloid trash like the rest of the news. They predict the worst possible accumulations and temperatures, whether winter snow and cold, or rain and highs in summer. Just as the main story will be anything with blood, bone or fire, they are trying to get you to watch. And I won't. I work outside, lucky for me it never gets too cold, but summers can be over 110. Just not as hot as predicted...

I just finished plowing over 6 inches of snow and much more coming they tell me. Fireplace insert is running and lots of wood standing by to refill it.
Not bad temps today but we're supposed to get that real cold Monday too.

if you live in a metropolitan area they will give the worst possible scenario that "could" happen anywhere within that huge area...took me a while to figure it out...I quit watching the hyping tv weather after I canceled a golf outing and it was beautiful the next day in my area...I concluded a few years ago that negative journalism is all they put out anymore unless the local pro team wins a game...jmho

BackInTheDay
1. My grandfather worked at USS Gary Works and NEVER was late or missed a day.
2. My grandfather would wash his car almost every Saturday. He'd also wash the engine - His neighbor thought this was hilarious and gave him a hard time almost every Saturday.
3. One morning it was COLD (minus a bunch f). Gramps took some burning coal out of the boiler in the basement (remember those?), put it in the alley and pushed his car out of the garage and over the coals.
4. After some breakfast he went out and his car started right up
5. His neighbor thought that was a super idea and did the same.
6. When Gramps got home that evening the neighbor's car was a burnt hulk out in the alley.

He told the neighbor *Washing that engine isn't so funny now - Is it?*

It's 11 degrees here now with 4" (and drifts up to a foot) on the ground with forecast of -11 tonight and windchill down in the -25 to -30 range. I made the decision to not go to the range to shoot skeet today.

Back in my serious flying days we would allways get a good preflight weather brief from the Weather Channel. It was good in that we would get a good overall view of the systems and what was going on, But we also found the Weather Channel would allways tell you it would be much worse than it actually was. Predicting what is possible is not the same as predicting what will acctually happen. Also with today's technology long term forecast are more accurate but they are still subject to the chaos that is our planet's weather. The. Ore stable a local system is the more accurate and the farther out the predictions can be made. When things get less stable then the accuracy and length of the prediction falls of significantly.
