Default To the powers that be here

Had an interesting thought....
Since many here are in their " golden years" what if the founders of this site started a retirement "ranch" for those here not content with their current housing?
Complete with shooting ranges, gun stores and anything else the collective imagination here comes up with.
I think it would be a very interesting and enjoyable place to while
away the time.
There is certainly a diverse set of skills present.
We would need some professional attendants for sure and of course a large cage ( not pointing fingers, no gigs now )
It could just work. Probably become a separate state when we got kicked out of wherever it would be.
The downside would be that I don't know how many women would want to be there, have to have some vehicles for roaming then.
Oh well, just a thought....

I've read this twice and still have no idea what you mean. A sort of virtual retirement world with guns as the focus? I thought that's what this was.

NOT a chance!

Day Care is bad enough.
No round the clock care. After 8 hours, we charge $25 an hour till your people come get you.

Ha! I said it was just a thought...I'm bored tonight.
And to the previous post, not virtual, real. Real bullets and all.
Of course it would center around guns and shooting! What kinda question was that? I had to read that three times

You could name it, instead of The Gunsite Ranch, The Aided Site Ranch

Something like the gated retirement community my parents moved to, where they had two championship 18-hole golf courses, etc. Dad ended up playing golf 5-6 days a week, and winning money in the regular competitions, as well as entering into a lot of the other social activities, and becoming president of the computer club for awhile. (The Plantation, Leesburg, FL.)

You might have a problem getting enough shooters interesting in such a community based solely on the shooting sports, but if you included some of the other "more traditional" retirement community amenities as well, it just might fly. I bet Dad would have been even happier if there'd been various shooting ranges as well. As it was, even with two golf courses, you had to sign up for T-times a week in advance!

BTW, we have quite a few older (And younger) women shooters at my club, so that might not be as much of a problem as you think. (Though, a lot more of the younger girls are concentrating on archery... Something to do with some recent movies I think.)
.

What used to be golden years have been downgraded to nickle plated years for most of us. Some have even had their golden years downgraded to plastic years.

I am pretty certain I don't want to live in an isolated community of very old, often addle brained, frequently depressed, heavily medicated, old men with more guns than most central American revolutions have. LOL

I like it right here just fine.

Ya right, just the way everyone wants to spend their "golden years'" stuck out in the middle of nowhere with an assortment of grumpy old men with guns. Great idea, Jessie

I'd move there, no question! It would probably be the safest placed on Gods green earth to live! Just think, mandatory concealed carry, the smell of Hoppes and CLP wafting through the air, dogs everywhere, everyone staying off of everyone else's lawn.....nice! Probably wouldn't be a squirrel left within 5 miles of the place!

Why are you guys so negative?

I'm sure Lee and Company have a hundred million or so laying around they could invest in this idea.

As much as I like the concept, it's one of those "I wouldn't join a club that would accept me as a member" kind of things.

ive heard of communities built around racing, why not have one built around shooting sports ? id do it if i could. but any retirement looks unlikely at this point.

Heck, the "Villages" in Florida have done well with the golfing group, why not a retirement village built around the shooting community? Trap ranges, skeet ranges, pistol ranges, rifle ranges, and lots of little restaurants where you could get an "early bird" dinner for half price. In a nice warm climate where you could shoot outdoors year around. A club house with community reloading bench's, and even a community shop with lathe's and mills for re-barreling, etc. Of course with lots of golf cart trails so you don't have to use your car very often. I can just picture it, with several golf carts with gun racks in the back going down the road to the sporting clays range.

If I have to look at people my age everyday all day I think I'll pass! They would probably serve broccoli every night anyway.

Fishing. There would have to be fishing. And adult beverages. Can't be retired without the opportunity to go fishing andhave a cold one whenever you want.

I'm ready to move some where warm, and for those past the adult beverage phase I volunteer to chair the first meeting of the Friends of Bill W. My only question is once were there will we be allowed to leave?

Yeah, but would the locks be on the inside of the doors, or the outside?

Default How about a video game?

Go from LGS to LGS trying to find a deal. Stopping and shooting the breeze gives you health points. Leaving the store you come across an anti-gun rally. Defend yourself against mobs of gun haters. When you get home you are confronted by wife. Come up with an excuse she will accept. If she doesn't accept it you have to go straight back to the gun store and return your gun and lose any points you have. If you need help at any time, consult the forum. Which poster knows what they're talking about? Finding ammo and components give you more points......

You get the idea.

The idea has some appeal, but who wants to be with old geezers 24/7? Now that I am retired I go to the gym every morning. Nothing like sitting on the exercise bike right behind a totally fit young babe in skin tight shorts hunched over on her bike or bouncing on her elliptical machine! Keeps my blood pumping and almost makes me think about giving up donuts and beer to lose some weight!

Not to worry, none of that type would be allowed, and if they happened to wander in they'd be shot.
If you were referring to the " professional attendants" comment, I was referring to the mental health type.

Given the number of guys here with "get off my lawn" signature lines, I don't know if they would be good neighbors or not... cantankerous, old coots!

Well, I ain't old enough to retire, and I never plan to do so anyway, but it sounds like a nice place to visit.
Lets see, a bunch of guys sitting around, solving all the worlds problems while smoking really good seegars. That sounds like my idea of a good time. We could go shootin' every day too.

There probably wouldn't be any Women there, so I would only visit occasionally.

I believe there is a place like this in Nevada. It is near Los Vegas. I think they have full auto rental. It is gated and guarded.

Can I get mining rights to the range back stop / berm? I'll supply management cast bullets at a discount price. One must maintain powder and primer supplies.

Will there be a reloading club where we discuss progressive vs single stage, Lee vs Dillon vs Hornady, +p loading, will 38 spl fit 38 CTG guns, starting load, etc? Who cuts the grass?
