Seems like someone had to have a good of knowledge about the guy's collection. No evidence of break in sounds strange to me.

One reason I don't do any type of advertising on my clothing, vehicle or home. In fact not many people even know I have a permit and carry.
Don't need someone following me and sizing up my home.

That might be possible in Mass, but it ain't very practical in a community where everybody knows everybody, and most males are seen at dove shoots, deer camps, duck ponds, quail hunting, or just hanging out at Barrow Automotive, where just about everyone in GA buys guns.
Our best methods for discouraging this kind of theft are safes, a good Sheriff's Department, and a pretty sure knowledge that a thief caught in the act might suffer ill consequences.

I need to get a small safe. I don't have what you'd call a collection but I'd sure hate to lose what I have. Also, need something to keep ammo in.

Sounds like either an insurance scam or a pre SHTF mysterious gun disappearance. Could also be a "pre" divorce theft.
Just way too suspicious that no safe, no forced entry and only certain guns stolen and who hides $5,000 in plain site. If you are stashing that kind of cash in your house it should not be that easy to find.
Love to see the follow up stories.

Just a couple days ago the TV stations did a piece on a student (Not far from where I live) that had a real serious illness but could still play basketball (A sport he enjoyed and did well at) The principal banned him in spite of a doctors clearance and the students protested (Held a sit-in) AND WON. They put the kid back on the high school team
.
They then went to the kid’s house for an interview with him and his family. The father was sitting in front of a nice gun cabinet with a few long guns showing. This showed on at least 2 (stations I watch) of the four stations in the area. I hope that “outing” does not cause a break in and subsequent lost of what look like some nice guns.

I have a large gun safe and don't advertise the fact I own guns either but you never know when you'll be targeted. I just had Culligan deliver salt for my softener in the basement in view of my safe and gun bench. I'm not saying anything against the delivery guy as I don't know him but sounded like a decent guy talking with him. What I'm saying is in spite of house alarm, gun safe and taking precautions we're all in danger of a break in of some sort.

i believe a good safe......
could help a lot . after having my guns & a few other valuables in a " make shift " safe for many years , i sprung for a good , well built , heavy safe .
it is 7 gauge steel ... bout the thickness of 2 quarters & a dime . weighs in at 1000 lbs. i realize ANY safe can be broke into ....but some would take a monumental effort. cutting into a safe like the one i own would be a pretty lengthy and labor- some effort ! maybe blowing a gaping hole in the wall a better bet ? !
just my 02 . but the secure safes do bring a little more piece of mind !!

If I could afford to build a house that nice it would have had a gun vault built in. Now that the firearms are gone they ought to have listed the firearms in the news article. Once they're stolen it doesn't matter a hoot who knows and in fact in that instance I'd think the more the merrier. He'd have a million or more gun enthusiasts looking out for them rather than the local P.D.
