PODS -MOVING...
Anyone ever use PODS for moving ? When we moved from N.Y. to Delaware we got quoted $8000,000 but when the truck got to our house here in De. They wanted $12,000 and they would not unpack anything until they were paid.... I told that P----xx to keep my stuff and i wasn't going to pay $12,000. My wife started to cry. I ended up paying $10,000.
Now it's time to move again. I ordered 2 -18 x 9 Pods -Total price with ins. $1,800- House to house- $300 a month if i need more time.
I just want to know if i'm going to have problems and how safe is it. They do take your pod and store it at there nearest pod location. Then when you move in to your new house, they deliver your pod.

I've used PODS for storage, but not for moving.
Sorry, not much help.

Am I getting this right... You're going to use the same outfit that wanted to take you for 50% more than quoted but were nice and settled for 25% over the quote??
I would never go back there myself, but if you must, get it in Writing first.
Btw, 8 million seems a little steep for a move from NY to Delaware!

We used pods when we moved from Indy to Kentucky. We packed everything up, they picked the pod up and stored it until our new house. When it was ready they delivered the pod to our new house we unpacked our stuff and they picked it up. Easy and no problems.

Your loading yourself with a POD aren't you. Still looks like you got the better end of the deal if they quoted you $8000,000 and only wanted to charge you $12,000 but settled for $10,000 . I assume there was a error with zero's there . Why didn't you pay by check or CC then dispute if you had a contract. Next time make sure you have a contract total. Couldn't you just use a U-Haul if you got the help on both ends and are moving in right away if your loading yourself.
Where you moving to hopefully a gun friendly state looks like the last two weren't very friendly.

We are moving back to Florida next month. Considered "Pods" but thought them to small for a life time of "Clutter". Renting two 22 foot "U-Haul" trucks. If these are not big enough--Burn the rest.

Jimmy- I was afraid of what you were going to say. ha ha
You are right -burn the rest --- We are putting all what we don't want in the garage and donate to a place called ACTS... I hope two 18x9 pods will do all what we have. I'm going to take a pict. of my 2 car over size garage and show you.

I've moved my whole life. A good rule of thumb is:
If you haven't seen/used it in 9 months, it goes in the dumpster.
If you haven't used something in 9 months, you probably didn't need it to begin with.
Of course, tools and guns are exempt.

We used a POD when we moved to our current house. It was a short move (30 minute drive), but we did store it for 3 months while our house was built. No problems. Of course you do have to load and pack, then unload yourself. This was more than 9 years ago, so they do have some history.

MOBILE HOMES:
These folks have it made when it comes to moving !
Hitch up and drive away with all your "Stuff".
OR
Motor Homes:
"Sally, get in the Motor Home", turn key on and drive away with all your "Stuff".

We moved last August. What a job. I will never move again. We lived in the last location for 27 years. Wow where did all that stuff come from? I started in February getting it ready to go. We had 4 garage sales and made $10,000.00. Yes that's right 10K. We worked for every nickle though. I have been packing some of that stuff around since my youth. I sure do miss some of the unique items. I also stay away for flea markets and antique stores. I don't want to go through that again. Good luck with the PODS.

Reminds me of my Dad. 30 years ago he and Mom moved from Ohio to Florida. Now my Dad was known as a cheapskate who couldn't pass up a "deal" so when a buddy with a gutted Winnebago offered to move their stuff for half what the professional "Gougers" wanted, he jumped on it.
Needless to say, when their furniture showed up late and scrambled, with his "buddy" demanding more money to deliver the goods because the overloaded motorhome broke down several times, he didn't have a legal leg to stand on.
That stubborn old goat never did learn...

Can't help with pods. Every time I've moved I've just rented a truck and gathered as many friends and family as possible to help. Although, I probably would have paid anything when I was living in the Peoples Republic of New Jersey just to get out faster! But I now reside in Delaware too and I'm much happier. Good luck!
