Do you remember your first car?
Mine looked something like this photo I found on the net -- 1948 Mercury Eight, had a V8 flathead engine and stick. The year was 1959. Dad helped me buy it when I was 16, going on 17, just before I joined the Navy. Drove it 3 months, dropped the tranny in the street and a week later was off to Great Lakes. Dad fixed 'er up but I never got to drive it again as I spent the next 6 years away from home.
When I got back I bought a 1953 Crestline Ford, which also had a flathead V8.

Much nicer than my first car.
Mine was a crummy two-toned yellow and brown 1987 Chevy Cavalier, haha.

No pictures they were all lost. But Mine was a 63 Ford Galaxie 500XL bucket seats console four door with a back seat as big s a king size bed, at least that's what it seemed like back then. Only four door XL I've ever seen.

Heck, yeah! Of course I remember my first car. It was a 1929 Ford Model A roadster...without a rumble seat. Great car. Never could take it on the freeway because I couldn't get it up to minimum freeway speed and maintain it for any length of time. It had its original engine and would max out around 55 mph with the pedal to the floor.
Could pretty much fix the thing with nothing much more than a pair of pliers and some bailing wire.

My first car was a 1967 bug with 300k miles. It dropped a valve so my dad handed me the keys and said here ya go son, your first car.
Two used heads and one used piston from the junk yard, new rings and a gasket set, lots of beer... Vroom...

Mine was a 1957 Alfa Romeo. Beautiful car but it was a pile of junk mechanically. I spent more time under it and wrenching topside than you would believe. It died of heat stroke one very hot day. Merciful death for it but I almost cried. My next car was a "Granny" car; an old Nash Rambler. At least it was reliable. Wish I had photos but my half brother stole the family album when my Mother died.

My first car I bought when I was 14. It was a 1971 Plymouth Barracuda. When I was 15, I bought a 1967 Chevy II Nova and soon after sold the Barracuda.
I sure miss those cars.

Also a VW bug 1967 I bought it used in 1969 it was a good car, I was transferred to work in Puerto Rico for two years, the company shipped it down there for me. It was a fun car to drive on the winding mountain roads I sold it down there it may still be running?

My first car was a 1970 Dodge Super Bee. Plum Crazy Purple. The original 440 six pack was gone. It had a 383 magnum that we souped up with a Edelbrock high rise manifold and crane cam.
Ran it off of an unmarked dead end and totaled it. We were lucky to walk away from that one.

99 ford Taurus. I got it in 2006, with over 200,000 miles, rebuilt transmission and rebuilt power steering system. Dad got it cheap at the auction, with all the bumps, scratches, scrapes, and dents that come from abuse. It rode like a freight train, with all the noise and shaking at 65mph. I was afraid it would fall apart if I went any faster. The drug dog hit on it one day at school, and I was accused of smoking weed in my car until I asked my mom who owned my car last. She didn't know, and neither did I.

When I was 14 dad bought me an early 70's Honda CB500four. It was a tank for me at that age. First car at 15 was a '72 Plymouth Satellite Sebring Plus, 130,000 miles and smoked something crazy.

Sky Blue 1972 Ford Maverick. $230, 99K miles, rotten 1/4ers, and bald tires. Named it The Blue Mule. Great starter wheels for a lead footed high school kid. My buddies had Stangs and Novas, so I had the clunker, but the Mighty Mav was a reliable and trusty steed for as long as I had it ... which wasn't that long, since bald tires tend to loose traction in torrential rain storms causing vehicles to hydroplane and crash into road barriers.

Mine was a $200 beat to heck, rotted, piece of Detroit junk back in 73'. ( Make and model unimportant) Gas tank had a hole, exhaust always falling off, shifter used to freeze up at the worst possible moment. Windows leaked and the heat rarely worked. But ah the things a young man can learn about life in his first car. I'd give anything just to sit in it and close my eyes tonight.

1950 Chev 2 door sedan. Paid $200.00 for it. School district paid me $20 a month to drive it across country to a neighboring ranch to meet the school bus to high school. While it was parked at the neighbors, wife forgot to put her brand new 58 Chev with her first automatic transmission in park. Car ran down hill and hit mine. Their insurance paid me $200.00 for the damage and I pounded the dents out myself.
Sold the car 2 years later when I got a driver's license for $200.00.
Best durn car I ever owned.

1964 Corvair Monzq. 3 speed on the floor and AM radio. Red on red on red. Carbs were always out of sync but I really had fun with it until I rear ended a Buick that was stopped in the fast lane of a freeway. As the Doors said "this is the end".

67 Olds Delta 88 4 door w/ a high compression 425 cid TWO BARREL carb! It was an odd bird. Good top end, no low end torque. Damn car wouldn't get double digit mileage going downhill with the engine off! A true lead sled.
At 5'10", I could lay straight across the back seat and wouldn't touch either door! 3 guys (sneacking into the the local drive in movie), or a full keg of beer would fit in the trunk though!
Bought from my Grandpa in 74 for $500

I drove a lot of family cars throughout high school, but the first car bought with my own money and titled to me was a 1957 MGA 1500 roadster. Had a lot of fun in that car. Tried to drive it to California, but blew up the motor just outside Belfield, ND. Got it towed home and rebuilt the motor.
A couple of years later I traded it for my first motorcycle.

Like it was yesterday, but it was about 50 years ago. A 1929 Chrysler 75 Royal 4 door sedan. The photo is of the car I owned, only 2 or 3 owners after me. The new owner, who has owned it for maybe 20 years, only live a few miles from me.
It looks like Mule-Packer and I are tied for the oldest so far.

A '47 Crossley Station Wagon. It had 3 on-the-floor and 4-wheel disc brakes, an OHC engine with an integral head-block. No A/C, little ventilation, hot as a sauna in FL in the summer. Look it up on Google. Ugliest *** ever made.

74 vega- i still remember the smell of burning oil on a rain wet engine.driving that thing was my ticket to freedom, it was my 300 dollar prized possesion.
i had "mega vega" emblazoned across the hood with a stylized lightning bolt forming the "m" and "v" with "69 and .08" racing numbers on the doors and general-ly flag on the roof( thats how it was spelled) any of my friends were welcome to write whatever they wanted.
absurd yes- and i still dated some nice girls in it! wish i had it still the night it got towed away is a tale in its self -

My first was a 1956 Plymouth Plaza, in business mans trim, no radio or sun visors and such, cost me $65.00 and a lot of miles behind a lawn mower. Had a flathead straight six with a three in the tree manual tranny. Thank goodness my Dad was a mechanic and I learned a lot about auto repair with his help.

'65 Ford Galaxie, 390 4bbl 4 speed. Manual steering and brakes, bench seat. Not a sissy car. 15.02 at 96mph with 140,000 miles...lifters ticking and using a quart of oil every 500 miles. Had no idea or the funds to fix it. Paid $425 for it in 1971. Drove it 3 1/2 years till the frame broke in two from rust.

When I was 15 my sister and BIL gave me their 1969 Olds Cutlass Supreme. It was about 5 years old with 85K miles, navy blue, white vinyl top, blue vinyl buckets, AM radio, Turbo 400 auto tranny with walnut shifter knob, and Rocket 350 four barrel engine. For sound I bought an under-dash FM radio/8 track and mounted Jensen co-axial speakers on the rear deck. I then put on Western slotted mags with Big Boss tires(60s rear and 70s front). The shocks and muffler were replaced with Monroe air shocks and a Hush Thrush muffler. That car got me through college and it still ran fine though it was rusty and dented up when I sold it for 500 bucks to the 16 year old kid next door.

The first car I bought with my own money was a 1956 Plymouth 2dr, small block V-8 With a push button auto trans. Wrecked it, bought another 56Plymouth with a 6cyl. 3 speed on the tree. Had to rebuild the engine. And put a new floor in it. Highway signs make good floor panels.

Mule Packer, my dad and mom drove his '29 Ford roadster from Detroit to Phoenix and back in 1937.
My first car was a '54 Mercury. I bought it in 1963. Only had it for about 6 months before I bought my '59 Pontiac Catalina.

1965 dodge coronet ex taxi cab. Owner rebuilt the engine after 100k miles. Bought it off my brother after he managed to break the drive shaft u joint. Sat in the back yard for three years and some months while I was in the navy. drove for about a year or so before it was stolen. Heater didn't work but was a very reliable vehicle. Frank

My first was a 55 Plymouth, green 4 door with an automatic transmission. The shift lever was mounted in the dash. I paid 35.00 for it and drove it about a year. Lot of memories.

My first car was a 1930 Model A Ford, two-door sedan, I bought off some Hillbillys in Columbia Valley. . I gave them a bottle of home made wine and $15 for it. . My Dad helped me loader up on our hay wagon, using gin poles, and down the mountain I came with a our John Deere tractor with the Model A up on the hay wagon. . That was quite a ride, I almost lost it, the whole outfit jack knifed and the wagon came up over my lap. . Got it all straightened up and headed on home with it. . I was all of 15 years old.
Spent the next 6 mos. or so fixing it up and drove it around the farm and the back roads. . I remember getting it up the 60 mph and I swore the pistons were changing holes. .
I sold it to a collector for enough money to buy a 1940 Ford Deluxe Coupe. . Offenhauser heads, high compression pistons, 3/4 race cam, 3 stromberg 94's, 39 Ford transmission (floor shift) and home made headers. . That old flathead would go like hell. .Painted it monte carlo red and put 49 merc 15" wheels on with baby moon hubcaps. . Had a radio too and KPUG Bellingham was my rock'n'roll station
I was 16 years old and helping Dad real good around the farm he'd let me filler up with purple gas. . Damn, I can still hear that ole flathead idling with that 3/4 race cam.

I'd be willing to bet nobody has even heard of my first car. Bought it in 1984 when I was 19. '76 Mazda Cosmo. 13B Rotary engine, 5 speed, 4 wheel disc brakes. I could beat a lot of other fairly quick cars off the line with it.
I actually still have some parts from it. My friend and I drove it in SCCA autocrosses. He was driving it and ran it into a bridge abutment. Bent a shock tower. I called a mechanic who had worked on it and he told me he knew where there was another one. It had been sitting in a beanfield since it was only a couple years old. Exactly the same color as the one I had. Went down, poured gas in the 4 BBL carb and it started. Paid the farmer $1,500 for it. Had 6,000 actual miles on it in 1988. It was so nice I didn't want to drive it in winter. Called the mechanic back and he said he knew where there was another one. It was pretty beat, and the owner only wanted $400 for it. Bought it and called it "The Beast".
I used the parts from the first one to keep the others going. The early Rotary engines needed a lot of maintenance. My friend and I got really good at working on them, often in a rainstorm in the middle of the night on the roadside.
Still have the low mile one, but haven't driven it for 20 years.
Think I need to get back in touch with those good times again.

My first car (in 1965) was a '54 Ford coupe with a flat head V8. It had a cracked cylinder and no floor board on the driver's side (it had rusted through.) I had to buy my own car, my parents didn't buy it for me...and that was what I could afford. I saved and later bought a really nice, clean '55 Chevy (two door coupe.)
I didn't make my sons buy their first car, but I did make them pay for their insurance. They got used cars, but clean and in good condition. They went to school with some kids whose parents gave them brand new cars for their first car, some even very expensive cars like a BMW.

My first "Hoopty" was a 50 Ford. Pee yellow with a greenish tint. V8 with a 3 on the tree, and a Jet Black drivers door. She was a real beauty and was called the "Gran Toilet"..
