Default Airport security experiences...good and 'interesting.'

Just making my way hone from Australia and want to report some of my experiences.

TSA Pre-Check us simply marvelous. No one in line with me from LAX to board flight to OZ. Just phone in my carry on bag instead of my person. Fabulous.

Flew Qantas from Melbourne to Sydney with just a carry on. No problem whatsoever. However, upon return to MEL, I was asked to step aside whilst they searched my bag and found a pair of nail clippers which they confiscated. Yes, same clippers/bag as when I arrived 3 days before.

Perhaps, coincidentally, but doubtful, I was given special treatment when departing MEL for LAX. Was pulled aside after bag screening whereupon my carry on bag was screened again and then swabbed for explosives, etc. That has happened in US...no worries. However, I was pulled aside again as I was boarding my flight and received a full pat down and carry on bag was emptied and searched.

Of course, I cooperated fully and was agreeable except I was left wondering why I was chosen for further screening repeatedly. Because of the nail clippers? Perhaps. Can fathom no other reason.

Now for more good news. The Global Entry program rocks! I cleared US Border Patrol and Customs within 10 minutes from departing a full 747. And I was in the back of the bus. Literally hundreds of other passengers were still in a queue as I was clearing the sterile area.

If you are planning to travel abroad I strongly suggest you register for Global Entry.

Just cleared check in at LAX and again Pre-Check was simply wonderful.

Be safe.

There is an American comedian ventriloquist named Jeff Dunham. One of his characters is a little purple crazy guy named Peanut. Passing through security one day he was pulled aside because a sensor had picked up traces of a bomb making component. Closer scrutiny showed that the substance was on Peanut's butt. Obviously there was no bomb so they let Jeff re-pack his belongings. While doing so he asked security what could have caused the false positive. He was told tht some hand creams can cause it.

During his act he denied using hand cream anywhere near Peanut's tunnel of love. But his characters gave him hell about it all night!
