1st real shave in 2 years
I used a razor today and feel like I've had the first real shave in 2 years.
Off and on over the years I tried electric shavers and found them wanting. From a gun forum recommendations, I tried the Panasonic two years ago and was relatively pleased. But I never really felt "clean shaven." No, I don't have a heavy beard. I'm fair skinned and, well, used to be blonde.
With the Panasonic I tried using shaving cream in the "wet" method which was a bit better. But.....
....never really satisfied.
I think the electric shaver will be relegated to trimming my ears, neck.
No more electric shavers for me!

I'm blonde/fair-skinned also.
I've tried electrics on and off over the years, and always found them to be convenient (it's great to shave in the car when late), but a bit painful and never gave a close shave.
Try shaving in the shower with a razor. For sensitive skin and a good shave, buy the pink ladies razors.
I know, I know… but if you can stand the pink color, the ladies razors are superior to the men's. They are sharper, and last longer.
Another good razor is the Gillette MACH3 Sensitive Power Razor. It's pricey, but the shave is terrific, and I don't get the red bumps on my neck.
The key is shaving while still in the hot shower at the end when your face and whiskers are heated up.
Okay, so nobody put my man-card on probation for talking about hot showers and ladies razors!!

I agree with both of you. I am blonde and fair skinned, too. A blade just feels right. Well, except when you get a little impatient, and oops!
Life is too short to use dull razors.

My son gave me a new safety razor with a badger hair brush for Father's Day last year. Using these "Feather" brand razors gives an amazing "baby's butt smooth" shave. (I bought a steptic pencil at the time but have not needed to use it yet.)
The blades costs about 27 cents each and last a couple of weeks. I won't go back to the marketing hype of the next multiple blade Gillette or Schick announcement.

I agree, a safety razor with Feather blades is tough to beat.

As with anything else, shaving can have tricks, good ones and bad ones.
Shave in the direction the hair grows,,, etc,,,,,,
My favorite;
Put cream rinse on your face as you do your hair, prior to shaving.
It is pretty tough to go back to not cream rinsing your whiskers once you tried it.

I am kinda blond and have sensitive skin also. I shave it the shower, afterI wash whats left of my hair. The shampoo had a conditioner it and it helps soften the beard and cut easier. I use a cheap plastic Wilkinson sword razor and a badger brush and shaving soap with a conditioner in it. I get a clean smooth shave with out razor burn. I finish with Nivea after shave balm. I stopped using alcohol based after shaves after I learned they dry the skin and can make it my difficult to get a smooth shave.

I've been using a mug and brush ever since I started shaving regularly 45 years ago. I use a glycerin shaving soap. It lathers up well and doesn't dry out my skin. My folks gave me an electric shaver for my nineteenth birthday, but it didn't take me long to realize that you can't beat a good blade for a close shave.

during the recent vegas trip, I went to a place call "the art of shaving." they do it the old fashioned way with a straight razor. I'm not talented enough to run one of the things, but it was the best shave I ever had. the lady barber was nice looking and knew what she was doing too9.

I was cursed with a heavy beard, my job had me up at 4:00am to shave and get ready and if I had a date later that evening I would need to shave again to be at my best. I quit shaving in '74 and will usually only trim up during the warmer months and when I trim up I shave my neck with a double bladed Gilette razor because thats all I've ever used and never had any complaints. The thing that irritates me are all the lazy buggers out there that are constantly in the process of growing a beard, or at least that must be their excuse for only having stubble on their faces, but never actually getting to the beard stage. Whats the deal there, do they only shave on Sundays for the once a week bedroom festivities or what?

I'm a blond, blue-eyed Nordic type with a heavy beard. I shaved with soap and razor until I retired. I now use a Norelco or Braun. If I let the beard get too long, I treat myself to a soap and razor job.

An old man walks into the barbershop for shave and a haircut, but he tells the barber he can't get all his whiskers off because his cheeks are wrinkled from age. the barber gets a little wooden ball from a cup on the shelf and tells him to put it inside his cheek to spread out the skin. When he's finished, the old man tells the barber that was the cleanest shave he's had in years. But he wanted to know what would have happened if he had swallowed that little ball.
The barber replied, "Just bring it back in a couple of days like everyone else does."
Regards,

Thought for a minute that you were on "Okie" and got a shave by one of the lady barbers on base................
Now that was a shave!!
That old standard double edge razor and the single edge "Gem"
were the two that I liked.
Just depends if you like foam or the gel to get things going......
the "Toss away" are one of the worst for a nice shave..........even a new one, misses in spots !!

Merkur saftey razor and Merkur razor blades. Noxzema regular shaving cream. I shave in the shower, as the wife gets 'upset' when I leave blobs of hairy shaving cream on the vanity...

I broke my foot in July and got some blood clots in my lungs and they put me on xarelto. Doctor told me to start using an electric razor instead of a blade. I bought one and some stuff to use before shaving. The instructions with the electric razor said it would take about 4 weeks to get used to it. I guess I am a slow learner because in 6 weeks I still hadn't got used to it so I went back to a real razor. After about 2 months the doctor asked about the electric razor and I told him I went back to my regular razor. I told him I had thought about it and I didn't believe a person could bleed to death from a shaving cut. He laughed and said I would really have to work at it if I did. Larry
