Default Home Sweet Home in the 'South'

My old fashioned desktop is in the 'library', next to double windows that look out over the ponderosa. Can see maybe 10 big trees, that dropped 3-4,000 lbs of wood onto yard last night.

The trees are nice and shiny, covered in around 1/4" of ice. The wood that was dropped is laying in 6" of snow that has a 1/4" of ice underneath it, and a 1/4" on top to seal it.

There is a very light (thankfully) snow falling, that has been falling for 14 hours.

The paths that I shoveled are now solid ice, and I walk in the snow beside the paths.

Probably got 300 various birds feeding where I cleared and tossed out 20# of sunflower seed.

110 degrees in Arizona don't sound too bad right now.

How is weather in your lovely climate? I don't want to hear about you poor suckers in the great plains.

We fared pretty well in my corner of the Great Plains. 13 inches worth of fairly dry snow to cover the ice still lingering from last Friday's storm. We are pretty dry though so anything is a gift. The dang follow on wind and subzero temps stink and the drifts are getting pretty big but still, after the last three years, any mositure is good.

Some dude said that the drifts were often a blessing, to keep the new calves warm.

Can't complain. Got out to go shopping without shoveling, but I got a note from the mailman about clearing the way. But he did deliver the mail. He cut me some slack today; I guess I'd better do better tomorrow.

This snow is starting to be a weekly thing. If I wanted snow every week, I'd move to the mainland or upstate NY or something. Of course, they're not the gun-friendly shooter's paradise that I'm used to.

We had one full day of no snow anywhere on the ground around here. Then the last day and a half we got another 6-7" of snow and now we are looking at -1 w/o wind chill for a low tonight.
Looks like some more coming our way for Saturday and Sunday.

Broke a record yesterday at 86. A/C is cranking at 78 right now. Supposed to cool to the 70's this weekend. I lived my first 26 years in NJ, don't miss it ever. Joe

Two inches of snow Monday, ten inches today. More coming Sunday. Wife has pneumonia.

We're heading to Alabama on Feb 15. At the rate things are going, we might not come back home.

Every year I hate winter more and more.

I guess I'm in a different mind set, snow means slowing down to me .From spring to late fall I work long hours in the construction business, so when the snow flies I get a break, I look forward to a long snowy winter.

This reminds me of an old-fashioned Minnesota winter. 30-inch berms along my driveway. Three-foot berms along the streets. Snow mounds over your head. Nothing like snow along the Great Lakes, but a real January, with days at a time where the high is below zero.

Strangely enough, today was the coldest I have felt. Late this afternoon it was five or six above, but with a fresh breeze out of the northwest, and a lot of moisture in the air. Ungloved hands would sting in about a minute; much more uncomfortable than -25° in still air. It's not just the wind, it's the humidity.

Clear blue sky here on the coast, mid-50s which will drop to close to freezing tonight. No. Wind gusting to 30-35mph. Between the wind and moderately high humidity, it feels a lot colder than it is. This is margaritaville, we ain't supposed to have this unnatural cold weather.

Between one and two degrees here all day.
Four below last night.

A dusting of snow overnight and a few flakes today.
Lots of snow everywhere. It's an old-fashioned U.P. winter here this season.

Back in the day, in a month like this, my great aunt had a week on the calender marked thusly: "Cold Snow, Cold, Snow, Cold, Snow Cold
Snow, Dentist."

I think I know how she felt.

I can relate to that. I spent some time in Sparta WI. I remember, as a child, asking if it snowed last night. I was told to look at a window. "If it ain't up on the window glass, it ain't snowed".
