Blue Angels
I think this just must be a Photoshop of some kind but shows all aircraft flown by the Blue Angels except support. I saw the A4 show at Davis Monthan in 1978 that was the most spectacular display I have ever seen.

Here is a picture I took from the water near Pensacola as they flew over a friend's boat during a practice session. They are amazing!

I was out on Lake Ontario a few years back and a couple of the Blue Angels buzzed the lake at about 100'. They threw up a rooster about 75' behind them. Impressive (and noisy)!

I was working for the government at McDonnell Douglas when the BA's transitioned to the F-18. Sometimes we would get Product Quality Deficiency Reports (PQDR) from a squadron claiming the contractor has screwed up. One of our jobs was to investigate these reports and make sure the contractor corrected the problem so it wouldnt happen again.
One day I got a PQDR stating that there was paint over spray on a flight control actuator where there should be not paint. I requested that the exhibit (the bad part) be sent to me for investigation. The over spray in question turned out to be shiny dark blue. Hmm, this didn't come from the contractor, what is the only squadron flying F-18s that use this paint? Oh yes, the elite maintainers of the BAs.

If you haven't seen the Blue Angels in person, you owe it to yourself to do so. They are simply fantastic.

If those boys keep practicing, pretty soon they'll be able to try out for the Thunderbirds!

The Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds are both incredible teams. I used to be an Air Force air traffic controller. I've seen the Thunderbirds many times, Blue Angels just once. One of the most impressive things I've ever seen an aircraft do was done by a Thunderbird F16 in the early 80's - a single F16 performed a 720 maneuver (two 360 degree turns) at 90 degrees of bank at an altitude of about 100 feet above the ground, and he did it well between 2 taxiways that were 2,100 feet apart. The afterburner was lit the entire time. This means 100% of the vertical component of the lift came from the aircraft body and thrust (and not wings). Most impressive. Both teams published schedules for 2014. Anyone who hasn't seen either team perform really should seem them, it's well worth whatever effort it takes to see them.

Fantastic!
What a fantastic picture!!!! I first saw them as a small child flying over Charleston Harbor while we watched from the Battery. The population was MUCH smaller back then. They couldn't get 1% of the crowd there now. It takes hours to get to and from the airbase nowadays when they perform.

Had the opportunity to see both teams, Blue Angles and Thunderbirds several years ago at Thunder over the Boardwalk, the Atlantic City air show. Very unusual to have both teams in the same show. Sadly the Blue Angles have not returned but the Thunderbirds have flown every year except last year because of the Budget problems in DC. Happy to know they are flying this year. If you can get to AC in August it's worth the trip and it's free.

Until this past year they've been here in Seattle every year for Seafair, and performed a "half-time" show during the Unlimited Hydroplane races. I've seen it from the shore, but the one year I was on the lake tied up to the log boom, before the FAA made them change the show, was simply indescribable. They would come over the water so low the jet wash would have even the largest boats rocking. They were flying A-4's at that time. I'd imagine they were a whole lot easier for tight maneuvering than the F-4's were!
Now, even Fat Albert, the C-130 support plane gets into the act. It's a fabulous show.

you can call a C-130 a herc , herky bird or just 130 but a C-130 is NOT fat albert as the is the nick name for the C-5A. the navy never could get that right. I worked on C-130's for 3 years. I even flew on one from Rhein Main AB to Incirlik AB in Turkey. it ain't the fastest plane in the world but it will get you to where you want to go

I've seen both, and I give the nod to the Blue Angels.
That may be because I like the Hornet so much.

I was at a car dealer yesterday, literally right outside the gate at Warner Robins Air Force Base. When I got out of my truck, I heard the thunder. I looked up and some kind of high performance fighter was in a vertical climb at what looked like about 3000 feet. I mean it was loud, obviously full thrust plus AB. He rolled out inverted, then did a couple of rolls and wound up straight and level on an easterly heading. I commented to the salesman who had by that time intercepted me that giving a high performance jet fighter to a 25 or so year-old and telling him to go fly it to the limit was the same as if someone gave me a brand new Corvette in 1966 and told me to go have fun.

I remember when the Blue Angles appeared for San Francisco fleet week in 1982 or 83. Folks who worked on some of the higher floors of the Embarcadero towers were able to look out their windows and see the aircrews in the cockpits. Of course the mayor, had a screaming hissy fit, and called the sectary of the Navy to try and stop the practice runs.
Anyone care to guess who the mayor in question was? Hint, they are now a U.S. Senator.

The narrator for the Blue Angels show says they've named their C-130 Fat Albert. That was my reference, rather than attempting the correct military nomenclature.

I remember the first time my dad took me and my brother to see the Blue Angles,mi never forget that show. I had a model of them flying in formation hanging from my bedroom ceiling. I took my son to see them when he was younger. Next time I'll have my Grandson with me. Everyone should see them, they are amazing.
Tap on pictures to open them up....Tap on them again and they will get larger.

I doubt the 'group shot' is a photograph, more likely a painting. The F-11 last was flown by the Blue Angels about 1969 and the FA-18 was adopted by them 1986.

Very possible, I thought a Photoshop as the F4 looks large and the F6F is slightly larger than the F8 which led me to believe it was a cut and paste. .

Forgot to include this in my earlier post. It's obviously a composite, but it's one of the background images that I rotate on my computer screen saver.

In the pic of the OP, what bird is between the swept wing Panther and the Phantom? A Skyhawk? I didn't know they went that far back, I thought the old Panther was the first. I wish they still had Hellcats!

I live a couple miles from Oceana Master Jet Base...USN for those who don't know...F-18s are as common as seagulls here and the Blue Angels fly right over my house when they practice and perform here. The noise from low flying F-18 Super Hornets is tremendous so as much as I like seeing them, its a relief when they are done. My family has had property here since before there were airplanes so the activities in the air around here a just part of the environment to the point that I don't bother looking when the regular Super Hornets fly over...But, I always watch the Blue Angels when they are doing their stuff over my part of the city.

The Blue Angels are the best. I used to watch them practice when my folks had a condo in Gulf Shores AL. The A4 Blue Angels are hanging in the Naval Aviation Museum in P-Cola. Great Museum, Igo every time I am in that area. Got some decent pics of them from my rear balcony a few years ago when they did a show at Alliance/Ft Worth airport.

That is a painting, not a picture taken with a camera.
Miss the shows at El Toro Marine base. Miramar is great, but I loved the neighbors always crying 'Foul!' every year when the air show came to town.

They are all absolutely magnificent. The Italians and Canadians have awesome demonstration teams too. As a matter of fact, The FAA flight restrictions don't apply to the overseas guys and the restrictions that do apply are not nearly as strict. Talk about some daredevil flying......but.....at the end of the day, just remember. There are only two kinds of aircraft in the entire world, Air Force fighter jets and.....targets. That is all.

Take a look at them in real life next to each other. The F-6 is slightly larger than the F-8. A friend of mine's father bought a F-8 Bearcat and I got to look at it in detail. It was sitting next to his P-51D and P-40N. His Mk XIV Spitfire was not there as it was in rework. I did get some stick time in his AT-6 though. What a day that was.
The Blue Angels winter over in El Centro, CA. I was stationed there for a time, as well as Oceanna and Pensacola, so I got to see them A LOT. Several of my (former Navy) colleagues flew on the team as well, so I heard more than I wanted to about them.
