Happiness comes in many forms.
One form of happiness is a windfall of some unexpected money. Another kind of happiness is the discovery of a new LGS very near your neighborhood.
I experienced the former yesterday and the latter earlier today.
I got a late Christmas check in the mail yesterday and I knew instantly what I was going to do with it. I haven't popped a cap since last April so I decided to get back in the groove.
Today I'm still buzzed about going shooting and decided to hit a few places in search of some fresh ammo. I didn't have to go too far neither. Driving along Pasadena Blvd. I just happen to look to the right and there in this little strip shopping center is a new looking sign with the stores name on it.
I nearly had a wreck turning around. WHAT!?!? How long has THAT been there? I never noticed it before. 'Course a lot gets by me these days but still, a new gun store??
I went in and met the owner. A fine gentleman, an experienced hunter judging by all the exotic animal mounts around the shop, and an FFL to boot. He opened for business back in September of '13. He is still building his inventory but already has a goodly amount of neat stuff for shootin' and fishin'. He has some ammo but not a lot at this time. What he does have is for sale at reasonable prices. I picked up a box of 9mm and a box of .45 acp. After some of the prices I've seen and heard about lately I felt like a thief when I walked out of there.
I posted this up to celebrate my 2 days in a row of good fortune (can I get a "hell yea!).
I have always hated buying guns, ammo and accessories in a mass merchandiser and having to deal with shoe clerks. Having a decent, knowledgeable and fair minded gun store in the hood is a true blessing and I hope like the devil that he makes a go of it.
Now the plan it to hit the range on Thursday. I have sent a shout-out to all my old shootin' buds and we will meet at the local choke-n-puke for breakfast and then on to the range. Just line anything else you love to do, to be able to do it again after not being able to is one heck of a rush!
I'll be taking 3 handguns. My Glock-36 cause it's one that I carry a large percentage of the time, The Glock-17 cause it's my plinker, and my 24-3. I haven't given Mr. Horton a work out in some time and I just couldn't bear to leave it behind.
I'm gonna try and remember not to have any caffeine before I shoot. Y'all have seen the effect THAT has on me. Do not operate heavy equipment or handle fire arms or edged weapons while buzzin'!

Sounds like you have a great time planned.
Me, I'm in negotiations with a local handgun instructor. If things work out and he's true to his word, I'll be his custom leather holster and gunbelt guy.

Ringo, Thanks! I have rounded up some of the regulars and it is shaping up to be a nice day. I'll take the camera in case any of my targets are presentable.
Snubby, Good luck with your negotiations. Sounds like a good deal.
RW, It would be hard to see anything you'd want to call a "group" An occasional hole in the paper would be more like it. Go ahead, ask me how I know.

Good Luck Snubby!
Walkin Jack - now that sounds like a good plan. I would love to go shooting but it is too cold and way too much snow to be outside for very long!

Yep. If I get any more excited I might have to break out the depends. I'm still like a kid about some things. If I'm goin' fishin' or shootin' or campin on the beach I still have trouble sleeping the night before. But then I'm only 70 (in June). Sure hope I never grow up.
Thursday is predicted to be in the low 50s with bright sun and blue skies and wind out of the SSW at 3 to 5 mph. That'll work!

It must be nice. I am a little further north than you. I am on the other side of the mountains from Snubby. He is going to get hammered with snow on wed or thurs according to the weatherman. I can't wait until our weather is in the 50's.

Yeah, looks like we're gonna get dumped on.
I don't mind the snow so much, our 4wd truck does great on snow and we just got a new set of knobbies for it.
The problem is that we still have a lot of ice. Snow on top of ice is a whole different hazard.
I'm lookin' forward to the spring thaw. I know that'll bring a bunch of mud but like I said our 4wd truck's got a new set of knobbies.
"Hold my beer and watch this!"

Back from the range.
What a a beautiful beautiful gun lovin' day it was today at the Texas City Municipal Shooting Range. Shooting a silhouette target I took out the head, thoracic area, center mass and groin area.
I was surprised and relieved and delighted at my performance today. I started off at 24' and after a few rounds with each of the 3 guns I had with me today I moved back to 48'. my eyes were clear and my hands were steady. I do believe that havin' decaf with breakfast was a big help.
True to form I forgot my camera but none of my buddies showed up so I'll just gets some pics of the target and EVENTUALLY get them up loaded into my computer and post up. There are a few "chili pepperts" but not nearly as many as I thought there'd be. Guess I'm still good for another 5 years to renew my CHL.
Sure hope I don't have to wait another 10 months before I get to go out a shootin' again. Texas City was gettin' outta hand but I got all the bad guys on the run today so things will be kinda quiet for a while I guess.

Glad ya had a good and positive range experience.
I understand how ya feel. Last time I was at the range, I was afraid that with my peripheral neuropathy I'd be lucky to get it on the paper. To my surprise and delight I could chew ragged holes in the targets with my 442 carry snubby.
