Default Sinkhole attacks Corvette Musum!

As I know we have some car guys on here!

A huge sinkhole opened up under the National Corvette Museum earlier today. Reports say it was about 40’ in diameter and 20’-30’ deep.

This sink hole has swallowed up or damaged six of the cars at the museum, located in Bowling Green Kentucky.

That sinkhole incident to put it in gun terms would be like it happened under the NRA museum and swallowed up a bunch of ultra rare guns.

Been a member of the museum for over 10 years. Been there twice, did a NCM pickup of my 05 and drove it top down all the way back to upstate NY.

Sad day indeed when priceless and rare items are destroyed. In 2003, the British National Motorcycle had a fire that destroyed ~650 rare and classic motorcycles. All started by a careless cigarette. Would of helped if they had installed a sprinkler system!!!

That got to be scary, and it's happening so often lately.

Here is a list of the vehicles that were swept into the hole as the floor collapsed:
*1993 ZR-1 Spyder on loan from General Motors
*2009 ZR1 “Blue Devil” on loan from General Motors
*1962 Black Corvette, owned by museum
*1984 PPG Pace Car, owned by museum
*1992 White 1 Millionth Corvette, owned by museum
*1993 Ruby Red 40th Anniversary Corvette, owned by musem
*2001 Mallett Hammer Z06 Corvette, owned by museum
*2009 White 1.5 Millionth Corvette, owned by musem

I live approximately 7 miles from the museum. Our whole area is an accident waiting to happen. Across the street to the north is the Corvette plant, and across I-65 to the east is where the Corvette road course is being built. There has been a lot of excavating being done there. Don't know if this has any bearing on the sink hole collapse or not. By the looks of the pictures this has been washing away for some time and the unsupported concrete flooring finally gave way. I have a sink hole about 200 yards from my house and in the twenty five years since I built the house it has grown from 20 yard across to about 40 yards. This area of Kentucky has a massive cave system under the ground. Mammoth cave is about 20 miles north of the Corvette museum.

At least there were no human causalities. I guess they will move the museum to a different location. Wonder if it will be in the same area. I'm not a corvette fan but do like the 63 split window, glad none were damaged.

Well the museum at this point has a couple of big building projects going on including a new driver’s track. It’s actually quite a big complex. The plant that builds the Vette is located just across the interstate from the museum. A lot of GM industry and the museum complex in a small area I sure hope for the best.

I've been there twice, and I was planning on going back this year as a first time Corvette owner. Hopefully, they will be able to open back up soon, and make repairs.

Looking at video #3, looks like they may go even farther down, looks to be a deeper cavern under where they are at. I guess they were just looking at the stability of what remains.
