A baseball qusetion for my brethren to the north...
Our school sports organization mandates that school baseball schedules end before the end of the school year, which is normally in mid to late May. This causes them to need to begin the season the first part of March. We still have bad weather then. Lots of rescheduling due to snow, and wet, cold weather.
Do you people in the northern states have the same mandate? If so, how do you deal with it? Covered fields? Indoor stadiums?

In our area of NY, school goes until nearly the end if June. Baseball starts training indoors in March- then games start in mid-April (outdoors). We can have some ugly weather in mid-April- but somehow they get the games in.

I'm no longer up North but I grew up in the Cleveland area and played Baseball. We played summer ball up there as a varsity sport.

Spring sports in upstate NY routinely get at least one weather cancelation each year. There is usually a mad dash to complete the regular season to prepare for sectionals, qualifiers and state competition. As stated, our school years runs 'til the middle-end of June.
For the parents and fans....dress warm and bring boots and an umbrella and hope they sell hot chocolate at the concession stand!

I have pert near froze to death watching my kids playing baseball in the spring. I have been known to wear a North Face McMurdo parka to watch games.

Been about 50 years since my high school days up here in TAXACHUSETTS. We'd start about March 1st outside if it was clear, bad weather we would throw and run in the gym. Season always ended by the end of school. Unfortunately we lost every baseball and football game during my three years there.. I'm proud to say we were smart enough to also lose to the football cheer leaders every year as well....WE took those loses MUCH BETTER.
