Savage 170 pump .35 cal
This is a back-of-the-safe gun. My Dad bought it, but never hunted with it. I took it out once when we lived in Montana. My oldest was only about 11 and was too young to hunt, but he went with me to fill a B tag after school. We were walking into an area and met a guy walking out, who told us there were no deer to be found. My little guy looked disappointed, but I told him we'd see for ourselves. We were looking down into some coulees, and I had told him to look behind us every now and then in case a deer came up when we passed.
I don't think he believed me, but he kept checking. Then he whispered DAD.
I looked behind us and there was a fat muley doe standing broadside at about 40 yards. I said watch your ears and took a shot. The deer made a big grunt and dropped from sight. There was a ball of hair hanging in the air where it had stood.
The 200 grain .35 Remington bullet dropped it in its tracks. Joe helped me drag it out. He still talks about it.
I've seen a few in .30/30 but mine is the only .35 I've seen in the flesh.

Good weapon. An oldie but a goodie. I believe your correct,... more made in .30-30 than .35.

Cool story and gun. Have you ever check that gun for accuracy. I have been curious about those savages for a long time. I always see em in 30-30 but 35 would be better.

My brother has one in .30/30. Originally it wore a Weaver K3 scope in the old Tip-Off mounts, and was capable of soft ball size groups at 100 yards. The Weaver died, he sent it off for repair and mounted a K8 I had in a drawer, and changed to solid mounts. He cut his groups in half. Those rifles are capable of decent accuracy. The K8 was useless for deer hunting in the Georgia woods so the K3 did go back on the Savage, but he kept the solid mounts. We did find out what it would do. It is also faster than a lever gun on repeat shots.

Cool story and great pictures. Thank you for sharing them.
I have your guns twin in 30-30. It's from the mid-70's and is in 98% condition. Got it for my 15th birthday and it was a deer killing machine in northern Missouri while I was in high school.
