Did it. Sort of.
About 20 years ago I decided to write a novel. Had it done in 2 years, and for several more I tried to interest a publisher without success. Very hard for a new writer to break in. So manuscript went on a shelf.
Still feeling the creative urge I finished 2 more novels and a non-fiction book. All of which were also ignored by publishers.
Then along comes Kindle. Since they can put your book up for sale with virtually no financial outlay, they will accept just about anything. Put it up and see if anyone buys it. If not, they're not out anything.
Yesterday "The King's Trumpeter" became available for sale. Not nearly as good as having an actual publisher put it out, I'm still getting a kick out of it.
Of course, my fantasy is that some project developer for a movie studio will see it and they buy the movie rights.
Now I'm busy getting the other 2 completed novels ready for kindle and I need to finish the third one I started (on page 130 at this point).
In case you want to check it out.

I wrote a novel several years ago. Lots of action human interest and a touch of native American mysticism. I wrote it on a whim but some of my friends vigorously encouraged me to get it published.
I spent a year trying and finally gave up. If you are not Stephen King or Dan Brown you will not get anyone to read your stuff. My manuscript is still on the shelf and unless it sprouts wings and flies away it will stay there. I didn't write it to make money on it. I wrote it for myself. The stress and aggravation of trying to get it published or even just looked at has turned me off on it. I'm certainly not going to PAY to have it published.
I have also started another one about a skip tracer (bounty hunter) but haven't worked on it for about 5 years now and don't expect I ever will. Maybe after I die Miss Pam will have better luck and get rich off it. If she does I'll come back and haunt her I swear!

Writing is hard work. To be a good writer you have to write everyday. I wrote soon stuff in collage, a few short stories, got them in the collage spotlight, a magazine the prints student works. It felt really good to see them in print.

Several years ago I finished writing the entries for a 365-day tear-off calendar of completely ridiculous "little known facts". Wrote over 500 of the damn things to allow for culling.
Funny stuff, sometimes containing gags in two or more languages in one entry. Descriptions of previously unknown animals, strange "facts" about famous people from history, "helpful hints", and so on.
It's sitting in an attaché case next to my computer desk. I haven't looked at it in two years.
I need to get off my dead derriere.

Franklin. thanks sooo much for the S&W grip screw. Arrived this morning. I appreciate the kindness and help. Lesson learned about buying grips without a screw....never again.
