Good for you. you were able to show someone from the UK that, with proper handling, handguns are no more dangerous than any other item that can be weaponized.

I'm sure many of their citizens already know this, but still

I've occasionally wondered if we could manage to get some of these 'gun-ban' politicians out on the range (Holding guns, not in front of them...), if showing them how much fun shooting sports can be and what they entail would help change their minds. I also think getting them to attend some of the major competition venues just to watch would be a real eye-opener for them.

Perhaps some of our pro-gun congress-critters could get them out on the range for a couple of hours, even if it meant implying they were going to a "golf range" and pulling a switch.

(Might also make them think twice when they learn that "Grandma" can probably outshoot any of their professional security people, let alone her kids and grand-kids. )

Thewelsm:

Good on you! If possible, could you give him, and would he be allowed to have in his possession, a round or two of the fired brass cartridges from each of the handguns he got to fire? I think it would be a neat souvenir for him - maybe take a photo of him holding the firearm(s), and then frame the photo and somehow attach (hot glue?) the empty brass to the picture frame? I offered to take my German brother-in-law to the range for "range day" many years ago. He was interested in going, until his wife said "Nein!"

Regards,

Dave

About 15 years ago when my two boys were Boy Scouts our troop got friendly with a troop in England. Our kids and a few parents spent two weeks over there living with the parents of the English Boy scouts. The next summer we had the English kids and some parents spend 2 weeks with our people.

I had a nice young lad (16YO) stay with us that expressed a interest in guns, but of course being a English SUBJECT he had hardily seen them let alone fire anything.

I took him down to my safe and opened the door and his eyes just about popped out of his head.

Blimmy you have all sorts of big guns, and YOU CAN OWN PISTOLS? I gave him some basis safety lessons and after cycling the actions I let him handle some of them. He was extremely happy and then I did the same with a few handguns and he was in 7th heaven.

I told him to pick out a few guns and in two days when we go to the camp I will let him shoot them. He picked out 2- Two twos as he called our .22s (my Ruger 7722 and Model 34 SW), a 1100 skeet gun, Rem 700 BDL 25.06 and my fathers old Ithica 16Gauge SS shot gun.

Needless to say he had a great time, he actually did very well as he listened carefully to what I had to say and more importantly he was very good about observing safety.

Even after all this time we exchange greeting across the pond and he has mentioned about coming back with his wife and 2 kids for a couple weeks one of these summers. We have the room and he is certainly welcome to stay with us again!

One of the things I enjoy about working p/t at a LGS/Range is the visiting folks from around the world.
I've been there when Brits, Chinese, Australian, Russian, Canadian, Greek, French and other groups have come in. They always have a good time. Very few enjoy our freedoms.

Default Automatic Weapons

I've been a big collector of military weapons and I have many legal registered automatic weapons. My cousin from The People's Republic of Kalifornia came for a visit. He owns a few rifles but we went to the range and took some classic weapons with us, i.e. Thompson, BAR, MP40, MG42, STG44, M14, etc. We shot them all and I made sure to video tape him shoot each of them. There were many, many ear to ear grins. I told him to take the tape back to Kalifornia and show his friends what kinda fun "free" people have!
