Car Brochures...Check out your first car
Well, not all are available but I found mine. Did you find yours?
Mine was a 64 Corvair Monza. They actually show the same color and hub caps. Red on red.

Uhm..............no. My first car was a faded silver 1975 Toyota Corolla with black interior, no A/C, no power steering and had a manual 4 speed.
The car I had a chance to buy later and was stupid enough not to however, is in there. 1970 Dodge Challenger.

My first is in there; 1978 Ford Thunderbird; it was black on tan. It was a big long beast, and quite the car for me back then... After that car, I swore I'd never own a black car again. Now, over 35 years later, I just bought a new black Chevy Tahoe... It's beautiful, and my new hobby is washing it...

That's cool. My first was a 67 Cougar followed by a 70 Firebird Formula 400. Might just have to pull of the photo album.

I've got several old brochures. Any time I went into a dealership, I would pick some up. I wish I still had them all. Most of mine are 1967-69.

Here's mine. It was a 3 on the tree 240. It may have reached 70 mph downhill with a strong tailwind, but I still miss it.

Mine was a 1942 studebaker commander. Dad had a 41 commander and bought the 42 for spare parts but didnt use any. Gave it to me when I was 15. I then bought a 46 chev from a uncle for $65s. Third car was a 1950 studebaker champion starlight coupe and then a 1956 chev 210 coupe. Then a 1950 Dodge coronet buisness mans coupe from another uncle for $65s, then a 1961 oldsmobile 88 coupe.
I have been having fun telling the kids at circle K where I buy my gas, that tank of gas cost me more than I paid for my first 3 cars! They just look at me like I am a dumb old grouch! It was a different day. I didnt even have insurance the first 3 years or so that I drove.
When I look back at it, the very best retirement plan I could have had would have been to buy certain old cars and motorcycles at the bottom of the market. (If you had a old barn to store them). You could quietly sell them when you got old and hopefully not even have a tax factor.
I had a chance at many in the mid late 50s. For instance, I had a high school friend that had a 40 ford coupe that looked new. He wanted $200s for it. On my inflation calculater that $200s back then would be like $1,600s today. I have no doubt that car or a harley or indian MC for the same prices, and they WERE around for that, would all be worth close to $25,000 to $30,000 today. Guns being smaller and easier to store would be high too, but not as high as well chosen coupes or MC`s.
The saved tax factor itself means a LOT! Every time I need to get $10,000 out of my IRA`s, I have to pull out about $13,000 after taxs. I also seen certain airplanes that I could have bought and retired off of it had I had a place to store it. In 1976 I bought a beautiful metalized 1956 piper tri pacer for $5,000s. Today I am quite sure if I had it that one would sell for $50,000 to $60,000s! $5,000 in 1976 would be like paying $20,000s today.

Ah, a Nomad. Mine was a bottom of the line Biscayne in glorious Sea Foam Green (with rust highlights) and three speed shifter on the column. It was my first car and we had a love/hate relationship.

My Dad bought this one new in '66 in Atlanta.
It had a 352 and 3 on the tree but now has a '69 390 and a 4 speed top-loader. Later model power disc, power steering and AC. and lots of rust.
We have another cab in the garage that we got from Az.
He's unable to do anything with it and I don't have the place to do it. I'll hate to sell it but just might. I grew up in that truck.

Great thread with lots of eye candy.
My first was a 57 Chevy, but I did get to cruise the highway in this bought used 1965 Riviera for I think 4 years.
Had a buzzer setting on the odometer which you set for speed, warning you, otherwise you wouldn't know if you were going 50 or a 100 MPH, one smooth ride.

They didn't have mine -- a 1967 Ford Fairlane 500
But, I have the memories of that car. I would probably be driving it today if a drunk kid hadn't T-boned it. 496,000 miles on it and it had never been in the shop. 28 MPG of regular gas with a 289 HP engine too.

Both my firsts.
From the ridiculous: 59 Chevy in pea soup green
To the sublime: 66 Pontiac Bonneville in Marina Turquoise. Magnificent Mamacita Magnet.

First new car--didn't bother looking for the used ones before that--a 1960 Falcon wagon, mint green. I was newly married and making ridiculously little money, so a fancier ride was out of the question.

I found mine:
http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/for...d/bilder/3.jpg
1953 Ford Mainline Tudor Coupe, with a flathead V-8 (that made a whopping 110 HP!) Mine was 12 years old when I got it in 1965, and had been rode hard and put away wet. It had a cracked cylinder and no floor board on the driver's side...but it was my car.

My first car was a British GM model so no luck on that page. However, I did find this on the 1966 Valiant like my Dad had when posted to the US. This one is a two-door like ours and in the same colour.
Big B Gill's 1966 Plymouth Valiant
I wanted Dad to get a Barracuda so bad I could taste it.
I think we rented one of these. http://www.lov2xlr8.no/brochures/dod...8/bilder/4.jpg At the time, Britain had smaller aircraft carriers.

My first Ford was a '29 Model A. Didn't find the body style in the brochure that I had. Mine was a Panel sedan. Solid steel where the rear windows were. Single door in the rear. Mine was owned by a flower shop in Oakland, Ca. But I did find a pic of a '39 Ford convertible I owned later on.

Steve, I had an identical car except in light green. Mine had the smaller engine (IIRC 170 CID)). It could barely outrun a VW Beetle. Yea, I tried it once and we stayed fender to fender.

Yep, I'm pretty certain I recall a conversation about taking back a "huge, 2.8 litre car" to the UK when the posting ended.
