I will hit the big 7 0 exactly 2 months from today. According to all reports my sparkling personality is still in tact. I am the very essence patience, kindness, thoughtfulness and forbearance they all say.
But no one sees me when I'm driving down the freeway with my windows up screaming my lungs out and turning the air blue with cuss words (and I know a bunch of cuss words).
Seriously though it has been reported that as men age they sometimes undergo a chemical change in their brains (yeah yeah tell me all about it) which results in an increased grouchiness). I don't know it it's true or not but I really don't care. You get to see a lot of stuff that's wrong in 70 years and I believe we have a right to complain. I find it to be a mixture of relief and alarm that the older I get the less I care about what others think about me or what I look like. At 70 it's more about how it feels than how it looks, don'tcha know?!
I try to strike a happy medium. I try to be easy going and fun to be around but I complain enough to keep those around me on their toes......so far so good.

I might get grumpy if I ever grow up. (don't expect that to happen any time soon)

I have a grey beard, I drive with a silbelly on the dash of my pickup, I prefer revolvers, and my khakis didn't come from a designer...
People expect me to be grumpy.
Being a man with a history...I can be grumpy
But when they expect grumpy, and you turn on the charm, them waitresses and gals behind the counter generally melt.
It ain't all bad, considering the alternative.

One advantage of getting older is while I use to be accused of being a "crazy ********", I am now just considered an "eccentric old geezer".

Eccentric sounds a lot nicer than bat**** crazy
Old TexMex is right about one thing-turn on the charm when they're expecting the grump and you've got them by the tail

Four years ago, at age 63, I was well on my way to Grumpy and loving every minute of it!! Then I married a gal exactly half my age. Now I'm having trouble remembering why I was so Grumpy ( actually, I'm having trouble remembering a lot of things ) !! Seriously, she is ruining my Grumpy. Not sure how this will turn out. She even goes to the range with me and enjoys watching me shoot. Need advice quickly.

I will be 70 in a little over a year and I guess I've gotten pretty
grumpy in the last 2 years. No doubt for a lot of the same reasons
mentioned above like physical pain and the restrictions that pain
puts on your activites. High on my list of grumpiness inducers are
self centered thoughtless people who automatically expect others to
enable their childish behavior. Like others on here I find that the
older I get the less I care what other people think of me, except for
a chosen few that is. There are lots of things to be grumpy about if
one chooses to dwell on them but I am actually happy most of the
time. Solitude is golden, the best cure for grumpiness is prevention,
avoid the source. Immersion in your chosen hobbies like good guns
and the outdoors makes it all seem worthwhile.

I founded grumpy. Didn't need a reason just the evidence around me. Your ugly. Your mama dresses you funny. You wife looks like a hamster chewing on a corn cob. You smell like a wet dog. Your children look like a goat herder gone mad. Who's your tailor Omar the tent maker. I don't like the color you're wearing. Politicians shouldn't be allowed to procreate. You lookin at me? Smell my finger. I used to be happy. I think.

I have the occasional grumpy morning but for the most part I find it easier to be pleasant. I am only 66 so I'll have to wait and see about 70. I really feel like a (creative spelling) when I'm grumpy to my Wife. She never has a bad word to say about anyone!

Turned 80 a few months back. I find I have a lot less patience than I had before, uually while driving. I have to work at being calm and collected and forgiving of idiots. I I don't, i'll have a lot more fender benders.

Golden Years
I think one of the reasons people call me grumpy and a curmudgeon is that I finally figured out why they are called the "Golden Years!" They are the years in which you give the doctors all the gold you have been accumulating over the years to pay their bills for trying to take away the aches and pains!

I sometimes confuse the terms "golden years" and "golden showers".

Like Archie Moore said, a man mellows with age. At 72 I don't suffer fools, but I have gained patience, things seem to flow better that way.

This is a great thread!
Admittedly, I am a little more than a year away from age 70 and the future is hard to predict. But . . . you guys are making me realize how fortunate I have been, so far.
Grumpy? Wasn't he one of Snow White's seven dwarves?
Hey, I go to see my physician at least once a decade, have no regular prescriptions, and bought a lot of ammo before all the recent craziness. What is there to be grumpy about?
