I finally broke down and bought a nice set of 1911 ivory grips, since they may be unobtainable, soon. They are just beautiful.

The real problem I have is that the only 1911 I have is a stainless steel Colt Gold Cup National Match.

These grips look far, far better on a blued 1911. On stainless steel they are kind of ... meh.

I have been lusting over a Les Baer target 45. Adjustible sights are a must for me. I have to figure out how to buy one without paying the typical gouge prices at the LGS.

I've never purchased a gun sight unseen, and I don't know any FFL license holders that do transfers. A few LGS are just outrageous, wanting $50 to $75 to transfer a pistol.

Is there anyplace that has a list of LGS's or private FFL holders that will transfer a pistol at a reasonable price?

My advice would be: if you have been wanting a set of ivory grips, get them while you can, I ordered mine from Boone Trading. They were a little under $300, which is pretty spendy. But, they are made of legally imported ivory, they are beautiful, and there isn't a lot of legal ivory left.

Sorry: no pics of the ivory on stainless steel. They just don't look all that great on stainless.

AAAHHHHH< Ivory grips. Love them. I always wanted a set but couldn't afford them. Swapped off a Colt SAA 44-40 for same in 45 Colt but sporting a set of Ivory grips. BBQ gun for sure.


I prefer Ivory on a blued gun because of the contrast but if they are on a stainless or nickel gun, then I love that also

I've got Ivory's on both blued and stainless versions and I will say that they do look much better on a high gloss blued gun. Now if you look at my Avatar you will see they aren't too shabby on stainless either, but just don't have the same contrast on the stainless as they do on blued guns.

Goldenlight, I'll try to answer your question. Go to Gunbroker and look down the left column. Click on "Find an FFL" and follow the instructions. Also, go to "1911 Heaven" on the web. Crazy John has one of the best selections of Les Baer pistols at good prices. I don't have any ties to him, just an FYI. Good luck.

Dying to get some ivory grips (k-round) for an engraved Smith I have, but time is running out. In a few weeks, I'll be a criminal just for wanting them.

Well, I stand corrected about ivory on stainless steel, but I think it looks better on a revolver, than a stainless 1911.

That is a great photograph of your revolver with the ivory grips; I can see the beautiful grain on the ivory. I will try to get a photo of my 1911 with the ivory grips, though my skills at taking pictures of firearms are pretty dismal.

I have wanted one of the nicer Les Baer 1911's for years, but I doubt I will be any more accurate with it than my Colt Gold Cup, despite it's probable greater accuracy potential.

My Gold Cup has has a lot of work done on it, including having the slide tightened on the frame, full length guide rod, 'tighter' barrel link, 'target' rated springs, and 3.25 lb trigger.

The trigger is just absolutely perfect. A 'retired' gentleman who had been a 1911 gunsmith his entire life did the work, in his completely equipped basement workshop. Sadly, health problems have forced him into full retirement, now.

Les Baer makes REALLY nice 1911's, beautiful as well as functional, but my rapidly aging eyes are the real limit on my accuracy, now. It's been a long time since I bought a new or new to me firearm.
