Saw "47 Ronin" tonight, the one with Keanu Reeves.
I thought it was ok, Keanu Reeves did not add a lot to the story, I thought.
Many good performances by the supporting cast though.
Solid 3 out of 5. Enjoyable, even if you know how it ends.

I just got back from a matinee showing of Godzilla. Ol' Biggun is back and in top form!
No spoilers, but whatever you think the story is.... you're wrong!

I think the movie has a giant monster in it. I think there will be lots of shooting and explosions. Am I wrong? Isn't that why we go to movies like that? If it doesn't have that in it, I'm not going!

Looking at the first post I guess it wouldn't have to be current.
Last 4, all filmed in the Boston area and excellent if you like this type of movie, which I do.
The Town
Conviction
Mystic River-Directed by Clint Eastwood
The Departed
Conviction is a true story and everyone should see it.

As an aficionado of big game hunting stories by Capstick, Ruark, Corbett, etc., I chose to view the film "The Ghost and the Darkness" last eve, which was purported to be an accurate portrayal of the lions of Tsavo man-eating tale. After 42 minutes of wasted time I will never receive a credit on, I switched the film off ... it was such Hollywooden dreck, I simply couldn't watch it a moment longer. From the outset, the film injected nonsensical fantasy and fiction into a story I have read numerous times. I expect little from Hollywood in the modern age, and this cinematic slop delivered even less than my expectations. Too bad I didn't find this out nearly 20 years ago when the film was originally released. I could have saved myself the time back then.
Fortunately the night was saved by "Beware: Mr. Baker", a wonderfully entertaining documentary on drummer Ginger Baker. If you remember the band Cream, and know of Baker, the film is well worth the viewing. Not many artists have such an uncanny melding of talent and torment within themselves as Baker. How he has survived this long is remarkable ... and his drumming prowess is still amazing.

If you're expecting a quality film portrayal of a book you've enjoyed, you're sadly mistaken. I have yet to see any movie made from a book that was true to the book.
The Ghost and the Darkness was a movie I enjoyed, but I haven't read any of the literature associated with it. This is common among movies made from book. Those ignorant of the book often enjoy the film.

I saw this just last night. I have to ask:
Did you like it because you're a Christian, or because you thought it was a good film?
The acting, production, directing, and writing were awful. I thought they really missed an opportunity to make an interesting movie that explored the debate, instead choosing to make a fragmented movie that painted everyone other than the protagonists as atheists, which I don't think is an accurate reflection of the majority view of religion.

The Leggo Movie, was awesome! Also enjoyed the new Capt. America movie, but HOLY COW it was violent for a PG-13. If you're watching something by yourself though, do yourself a favor and watch Repomen with Jude Law.

Watched part of "The Train" last night before I ran out of energy and went to bed. I hadn't seen it before, and liked what I saw a lot. Lancaster, Paul Scofield and Jeanne Moreau and some wonderful old steam locomotives.

WE have to have satellite TV due to nearby mountains. So, we rarely go to movies. But we are movie addicts and mini-series (Walking Dead, GOT, Fargo, SOA, TURN, Penny Dreadful, Black Sails, True Blood, Justified, etc.). Saturday night, the wife was away at a business conference and I turned on "Splatterday". The feature was "Frankenstein's Army"==a low budget, eastern European (Russian?) movie about a squad of Russian soldiers sent to capture Dr. Frankenstein during WWII. So bad, it was enjoyable. Lots of gore, no nudity and some bleeps. The "monsters" were half man and half machine, with metal crab claws, diver's helmets for heads, etc. No two were alike. Would be worth $3.99 but not much more.
None will ever be as good as The Movie Channel's Drive-In Saturday Night with Joe Bob Briggs. Each week, a low budget, cult classic with historical and production note brought to you direct from his trailer park by Joe Bob Briggs.

At a movie theater:
Master and Commander-The Far Side of the World in 2003.
We loved it.
Not a fan of Hollywood in general and don't give them a lot of my $.
Last movie on TV:
The Lone Ranger on Starz.
Idiotic, juvenile, unrealistic, silly and we loved it.
Not a fan of Depp, either, but he was entertaining in this movie.

I almost fell over when my drink and a popcorn was.....TWELVE DOLLARS!! Gasp!
Godzilla was FUN...pure and simple. No real thinking required....Simple plot........lots of noise and destruction...the Military portrayed honorably........guys shooting M-4 carbines at 300' tall monsters......LOL.

The youngest son and I saw Spiderman yesterday. Pretty good stuff, but it ain't no Captain America. We usually see the latest super hero flick out at the time. I think we are waiting on the new X-Men release next.

The last movie we saw in the theatre was "The Monuments Men". Good WWII flick and the George Clooney character was actually based on a guy from the University of Iowa art department.

Last I saw in the theater was The Lego Movie. Loved it. The kids loved it. We had a blast.
At home I've been too busy watching Justified on Amazon Prime, that I haven't really had time to watch movies. I'm half way through season 3 and loving it. Great show. Lots of swearing though, so keep that in mind.

Seems like all they want to convey in the newer ones is getting laid or how nasty and perverted you can act and talk. Is it just me???

It's not just you. And it's not just westerns. All movies have their 'trash' element these days. Producers think they need to push the envelope to attract audiences.

Amen to that sir. I also dont need to see blood spurting from a wound in rder to understand the idea. Most new movies turn me off big-time. Most of"the old guard" never had scandals either.

Go Go Godzilla!
The king of monsters is back. Now, if only they could have had the fun with it the Japanese versions do. I loved final wars. It was very much a proper Godzilla movie, but not as over the top as I would have liked.
But who knew there was a hot Olsen left?
Also, there's apparently only one experienced EOD tech in the entire armed forces.
Next up is X-men. I'm kinda miffed that they traded Kitty for Logan. "Days of future past" was really her story. I understand why they did it, as the movie audience has never met Shadowcat, but still. They could have introduced her for this movie.
Then in Deadpool we could get my favorite scene of him and Logan...but that would require there actually being a Deadpool movie.

Just watched while enjoying lunch--Kansas Raiders w/ Audie Murphy, Tony Curtis, James Best, Richard Egan, Brian Donlevy and Scott Brady. thoughno where near historically accurate--but still a great story dealing with Quantrills Raider lead by: William Clarke Quantrill (Brian Donlevy)

Well, up until the mid-60s Hollywood was pretty good at keeping a lid on scandals. There was plenty of talk locally about Randolph Scott and Cary Grant, but it never made the papers in Peoria.

"The Last of the Mohicans", the Directors Cut. One of the best "westerns" made in my opinion - easily in my top ten. The Movie, even more than " The Patriot" connects you with what it was like to be in America as it was being created by the mind set of the colonists. The Photography is without peer, to say nothing of the cast, Daniel-Day Louis, Russell Means, Wes Studi and a young Madeleine Stowe, whats not to like. Stowe's transformation from Royalist to American is a joy to behold, especially her eye opening discussion with Lewis under the stars.

I was going to mention tha Randolph Scott/Cary Grant scandal--but figured against it because--it was proven BS beyond any doubt and the instigater of the original rumor--was long since proven to have had negative feelings for both for some reason? True--they DID live together for awhile--but that was only for a shortperiod of tim and they shared rent while they were working on two movies shot in the area-though they wer in seperate movies.

Nebraska.
I with these theaters would to special runs of popular movies from the past. Like the spaghetti western from Clint Eastwood. Do a three movie run, with popcorn, a hotdog and a drink included in the price.
I would love to see the older awesome movies on the big screen.

The Railway Man
Powerful. Based on true story from WWII. Colin Firth and Nicole Kidman. Excellent.
Before that.... binged on the entire Tudors series on Netflix and Game of Thrones first three seasons on Amazon Prime. Both were fantastic! Waiting for GoT season four to come out.

That was one FUN flick! Saw it with my guy. Great blast from the past. I loved the part when they brought in the original score from the TV series. I started clapping and laughing it was that awesome.

Some do. We have one in our area that runs them through the summer months. A year or two ago, I saw my first John Wayne movie on the big screen--which was a big deal for me--because the last timeI had an opportunity to see one--I was too youg according to the child working the ticket booth. The Shootest was being played along with some other movie I was forced to see instead. I was 9 and got shafted from watching Duke on the big screen. Fast-forward 36 years later--and I got to see duke in: The Searchers.
A few weeks after that was shown, I got to see: The Great Escape on the big screen.

Saw "Monuments Men" on BluRay from the Redbox.
It was "ok". I thought from the cast, it would have been better. I was like they were trying to decide what the film was about, as they were shooting it.
It was a well made film, just kind of boring.
