So its that time of year, grills and smokers are firing up in every square mile of this great country and most of use start making tea for those hot summer days (aside from our favorite adult beverages)

How do you like your tea? Sweet or no?

I like mine brisk, don't bother offering me sugar, it ruins the taste of tea.

Most Southern people drink it sweet.

I have a cup of orange peco with a teaspoon of honey every moning. but with meals I like straight plain ice tea.

Lipton tea with Splenda and some Crystal Light in the pitcher over ice in the Summer. In the winter the same but with no ice.

Nothing gets it done on a hot summer day like a tall glass of sweet tea over ice.

I have drank sweet tea and not sweet tea and I prefer it the way my grandma made it.

I drink black tea and green tea with no sugar. I also drink them hot or cold. Works for me.

I'm a Tennesseean, but decided many years ago that unsweetened iced tea quenches my thirst better than sweetened. Same reason I don't drink sodas, but mostly stick with ice water.

Sometimes when it's very cold I'll drink a cup of very strong hot black tea with milk and sugar--never lemon--for a warming energy boost.

Sweet tea for sure. My late mother-in-law was from Arkansas and made the best sweet tea ever. Prior to her I drank it unsweetened.

What works for us, is Lipton Cold Brew made with hot water; steeped to taste. I put mine over crushed ice, a lemon wedge, and Splenda.

We drink iced tea every day. Period. No matter winter or summer.

As they say, "The house wine of the South."

Definitely sweet tea, whether it is "allowed", or "not meant to be". I don't remember any tea laws being passed. I like to make sun tea. I use a gallon jug of water & put a family size tea bag & sometimes a few sticks of cinnamon for an added kick. Let it sit out till it gets dark & strong so it'll stand up to the ice, then bring it in & let it get to room temperature before refrigerating. Works for me!

I drink mostly unsweet, with lemon. If I help myself, I will put just a little sweet in the bottom then fill the rest with unsweet. I can see no reason to use an artificial sweetner, read the label of that stuff. No bottled lemon juice either.

I am diabetic, so I acquired a taste for unsweetened tea 20 years ago. Don't particularly like lemon or mint but can handle them.

iced tea with no lemon or sugar. but only with lunch. martini with dinner.

Gave up Tea a few years ago when my Urologist told me that it caused Kidney Stones which I have suffered from more than a few times. I now drink Lemonade (home made with real lemons) instead. Apparently, Coffee is OK (as far as Kidney Stones are concerned) and I drink way too much of that!

As crazy as it sounds, yankees can't seem pull off sweet tea like you southerners, so here I always drink unsweetened. Maybe a twist of lemon.

However, when I head south next week, I will undoubtedly have a sweet tea or two.

My to do list in Dixie also includes some gen-u-ine grits, chicken fried steak, real biscuits and gravy and some of those ribs y'all are always ravin' on. Success will be measured in pounds apon my return!!!!

Had a European tell me that American tea drinkers were weird. He said, first you heat it to get it hot. Then, you put ice in it to make it cold. Then you put lemon in it to make it sour and then you put sugar in it to make it sweet! Crazy. I told him that the sugar had to be added while it was hot,before you add ice. Everybody knows you can't sweeten iced tea! He just rolled his eyes.

For several years I have mixed the sweet and not sweet. In Vicksburg last month, I learned there is a term for this. It is half and half.

The only right way to drink tea is iced and sweet. Being diabetic though, I'm forced to drink it the 'wrong' way.

Grew up on Koolaid and thats what I drank when I married. Wife drinks unsweetened tea and makes me sweetened tea with lemon. Been that way for over 50 years.

Don't care about hot/cold/lemon/sugar but I agree with them about the weird part. I could never understand how buying tea, or coffee for that matter, like residue is ok. Lipton, folgers, Maxwell ...is ok.

Along with in anything powdered form.

oh almost forgot.....few years back started drinking tea and lemonade mixed 50/50. that's the good stuff......and later in the evening rum has been known to join the party right along with them....

I like Luzianne tea...and while I only drink my coffee sweetened (I use Sweet-N-Low, or the generic equivalent) I can drink tea either with or without sweetener. If we go out to eat, I'll order plain tea and put artificial sweetener in it myself, since I don't like sugar in my tea...or I drink it plain. Since most restaurants charge $2 or so for tea, which is ridiculous IMO, we usually just get water to drink. At home, we make iced tea plain, and my wife adds Splenda and Lemon to hers, by the glass. No lemon for me, although I do like lemonade.

Some of the best sun tea I ever made and drank used to be made in two half gallon jugs left over from Old #7, Jack Daniels.

TEA = hot or not...I like it straight............no additives for me...

Sweet tea. That's how to drink it. And if they don't ask you in the restaurant if you want sweet tea, you're probably in the wrong place!

Not a fan of the liquid diabetes. I order 1/2 sweet (1/2 sweet, 1/2 unsweet), or a 1/2 sweet Arnold Palmer, 1/2 tea, 1/2 lemonade. Living in the south now, some of that sweet tea will make your tooth hurt.

Not Sweet... unless it's an Arnold Palmer, or it's been a really bad day then it's a John Daly.

GKC mentioning what tea costs in restaurants reminds me of a guy I used to work with. The guy could stretch a penny till it snapped;I'm telling you he was Cheap! He also drank gallons of iced tea. One time he went into a Chinese restaurant & ordered an entree that was $3.99. Tea was $1.50. He was happy because he figured he would get out for under six bucks, including his usual twenty five cent tip. Did I tell you he was Cheap? Periodically his waiter would stop by his table to check on him, & he would order more tea. When he was done he asked for his check, & they gave him a bill for $12.99! He hollered for the waiter, who told him "your entree was $3.99, you had six glasses of iced tea at $1.50 each, so $12.99 is your total". You have to understand that this was about twenty years ago, so it was a pretty big price for a meal in a Chinese restaurant. I bet he has never forgotten;I obviously haven't!
