Dog movies make a grown man cry
As a lifelong dog lover, I'm a real softie when it comes to movies about canines. My Dog Skip, Turner & Hooch, Marley & Me all got to me but the absolute worst or best -- depending on the Kleenex count -- is Hachi. Based on a true story about a Japanese professor and his beloved Akita, the American-made version starring Richard Gere left me emotionally drained for hours.
I'm old, sentimental but not usually vulnerable to tears but I have to say that Hachi, of all movies I've ever seen, was the most gut-wrenching of all.

For more insight into the Akita breed read "The Dog Man" by Martha Sherrill. For a dog book to make a grown man cry try "Merle's Door" by Ted Kerasote, a great read.

I don't know if I could handle the movie...I choked up just hearing about Hachi on Dogs 101!

I'm not over "Old Yeller", and it has been 56 years since I saw it!

For the thirty years I didn't have a dog (lived places where it was not permitted or feasible) I could watch those flicks and maybe choke up a little. The last three, since my little rescue rat terrier Moose adopted me, I couldn't handle them at all. It breaks my heart to read posts here from people who have lost or are losing beloved pets.
Talk about getting softhearted in old age!

Those movies choke me up, but after Boo and I watch them together she just mopes around the house for days.

I have to save my tears and emotions for my own dogs. Hard enough dealing with that let alone watch someone else get torn up about it. I don't even like watching the commercials about saving the dogs and cats on tv. I already know and do all I can.

Years back went to see "Eight Below" a Disney retell of a true story of sled dogs that had to be abandoned in the Antarctic and how some survived ...and some didn't.
There was a big guy a few rows ahead of us crying like a baby at the ending which was a tear jerker. When the lights came on and the guy turned around he was a HUGE biker guy, Harley t-Shirt, vest with "extenders", etc.
Anyway....as a Siberian and Malamute owner/lover...the movie got to me too.
