BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!
Well, it's finally becoming a reality! I will have a book coming out soon, hopefully in time for the Christmas season.
The title will be 101 Classic Firearms. It will arrange those firearms chronologically, so that the reader can trace many of the guns invented and produced in the "golden age" of firearms development from the mid-19th Century to the end of the 20th Century. There will be a history on each, some bio sketches of a few inventors, a mechanical analysis and a high-resolution picture of each gun. With my interest in Smith & Wessons, there will be more than just a few of them included.
The project is being funded by Dillon Precision Products, and will be exclusively sold and marketed by that company. Details will be coming as soon as it's ready in The Blue Press catalog/magazine. Mark Pixler, The Blue Press editor, is doing a really fantastic job on layout, proofing and editing.
Included in the book will be many of the articles already published in The Blue Press, and many more which have not appeared in print as yet. This should be a terrific reference work, and a great gift idea for anyone interested in guns.
It was designed to be a handy one-location compendium of guns that many people either have or want to have, with details essential to collectors - things to look for when acquiring any of the arms covered.
The book will be published right here in the United States. It will be a hard cover edition with an illustrated dust jacket. It should be available sometime in the Fall for about $30.00 plus shipping and tax where applicable. Again, look to The Blue Press (subscription is free) for further details as the book is firmed up.
I wanted to share my excitement! I hope it will meet all your expectations as a really quality effort.
John

That's great John. I will definately have to add it to my library. Hopefully, an autographed copy.

I'll have to figure out a procedure with the shipping department at Dillon to accommodate autograph requests - I'm sure that something could be worked out. I'll try to honor all such requests.

You normally don't discuss take down and reassembly, but that would be handy on most of the obscure firearms. Ivan

That's fantastic news, John. It's a book I will absolutely have to buy. Might need to get one for my son and his boys, too.
Please keep us updated.

You're right. Space limitations preclude doing so. Complete disassembly instructions alone take up a LOT of print space and often require detailed illustrations. Look at some of J.B. Woods' books, which do a marvelous job, for that. The book will have 224 pages as of now, and printing costs escalate dramatically over that figure. When space does allow, some of the guns will have basic field stripping information. However, for complete takedown and reassembly data, there are plenty of other sources available. My approach on this book has been mostly to cover historical, developmental and collector information. I've tried to be painstakingly thorough with that.

Haven't bothered to even glance at a gun magazine in years, but your stuff is good. As in very good.

You can't just get the mail room clerk to autograph them before he mails them out??

Sounds fantastic. I would charge $49. I think $30 is a steal and people like me who want one will not mind paying for quality.

Did our emails to Dillon help get your book published? I want an autographed copy for myself and 2 more copies as gifts. I get my monthly Blue Press.
Great job and thank you for making a great book.

You bet they did - the response was 100% positive, and showed that the market was there to make the project worthwhile!
