Default Blowing Up Stuff In Afghanistan

My son took these and said it's OK to post them. The Marines are blowing up munitions I guess belonged to the enemy, and a bunch of other stuff including heroin. First dynamite is layered with contraband and C4 in there, too. You can see mixed in with the dynamite are thousands of rounds of ammunition. After the explosion the people rush in to grab anything they can find that's salvageable, but it's just scrap by then. Note the heavy improvised "mittens" on the guy on the motorcycle to grab smoldering debris. I think that particular picture of that guy and those behind him is an especially good one. My son said the guy saw him with his camera and proudly road up and posed for this picture on his own, then took off again.

That must be the pit all the 22LR went in!

Neat pics, thanks for posting, and special thanks to your son for his service!

That's a silly way to go about it.

As I recall, last time I was doing a task of a similar nature, we coated everything with a liberal dose of diesel fuel, and there was a good margin of C4 in there. When there is no compression, it does not go 'boom' but rather it just burns intensely. The pit was lightly covered in sand, and ignited via a white phosphorous flare. In a short time, it was nothing more than a glass pile.

Blowing stuff up had too many negative aspects.

There is an ammo shortage in the US and in Afghanistan they are blowing up ammo. Really logical. The Government MUST be involved!

What rojodiablo said, except we used diesel and a thermite grenade.
Just all cooked off.

Wyatt, pass on my thanks to your son. May he and all his comrades have a safe return. Looks like they could use a little rain.....

Yeah, chaos and misery. What a mess.
Probably was a pretty nice desert a few thousand years ago.
