Utah LEO/ Utah attorneys: Please step inside....
Not really having a great run up to Fathers' Day.
It's very personal, so maybe the best thing I can really do is put it in context via a song:

I have some questions, and they are related to your line of work. Please let me know if you can at least entertain my fiasco.
Think I'm gonna throw up.

We might be able to help if we knew what your problem/question was.

Identity theft related, within family.
Am hoping someone from St. George county can chime in.
Thanks for looking in on me.

In that case I'd really drop the hammer on them to the maximum extent of the law and be damned what anybody else thought.

Not Utah law familiar, but in general, anything other than filing the report and cooperating with prosecution* will have disastrous consequences with regard to the effort to protect your ID, credit, etc.
* Complainants do not file/press charges. They contact LE, LE does their part, the prosecutor with the legal authority to consider the prosecution of the suspect makes an assessment of the report and then does the formal charging document/process if the decision is made to charge. Once you start this rock rolling down the hill, in general, you cannot stop it. Any effort to do so will at best be of no legal effect, and will also generate a LOT of annoyance/resentment.
