Wink I think a young Sailor might be in a little trouble.

I was watching the start of the USA vs Nigeria soccer game today at 5. As they scanned the crowd,
they focused briefly on a Navy Lt., in dress whites, drinking from a small metal flask. I don't know
all my regulations, as I left the Navy in 1975. But methinks it was not a good move. Am I wrong?

Wasn't a jg, he'll probably be fine.
I was in the A.F. in the early early 1970s, and that wouldn't have been a blip on the screen.

Only thing I can see from this which would be worthy of reprimand is his going to a soccer game in the first place.

Football is over for a few months; enjoy the trauma of a slow, drawn out baseball game and suffer with the rest of society.

But SOCCER??? Drop and give me twenty!

He was likely one of the US intelligence folks sent to look for the "girls" and was simply following a lead that took him to the stadium.

A flask? I'd need at least a fifth to sit through a whole soccer game...

But it is football and real football I might add as they actually use their feet unlike the *******ized American "foot"ball where we use our hands. And I'll never understand how anyone can think that 2 45 minute halves uninterrupted by commercials of back and forth action is boring while somehow finding the NFL exciting with its 10 seconds of action sandwiched between 30 seconds of nothing while waiting for the snap and more commercials than actual game play. The mind boggles.

At least it isn't watching golf.

Good grief, watching paint dry is a full contact sport compared to golf.

That would drive anyone to suck on a flask.

As much as I hate to say it, watching Golf is a lot more interesting than watching a Bullseye match. Not a spectator sport. Great to participate, but not to watch.

Most sports are boring to watch...unless you are there in person, then just many of them are boring.

Fully agree. 40 minute halves, no armor and only the man with the ball can be tackled. Then you go out drinking with both teams. Dave_n

Please...... Football ???? Not close to being real Football.
You ever see archival footage of Dick Butkis falling on the ground and writhing in pain from being tripped ???? Or accidently kicked in the shin ????
Then being helped to the sidelines for a nice refreshing Juice box? They only use their feet because they don't want callouses on their pretty little soft hands......
Take the Soccer back down to S. America where it belongs.

Fixed it for you.

I like the bumper sticker that says "Rugby players eat their dead."

And then there's Australian football, which is truly mysterious to anyone who didn't grow up in Oz.

Soccer is not, can not, and never will be the ultimate sport.

The reasons why: 1.5hr of play. A net the size of a Mack truck, upright and on the ground... and after an hour and a half???? Score is maybe 1-2, if any score at all. And all ya gotta do is kick the ball into the net.......

Basketball. 1hr of game time. A net the size of- well, of a BASKETBALL. And for some crazy reason, they hang the net 10 feet off the ground. And at the end of an hour of play??? Score is 85-100. Even in the WOMEN'S league, they can muster 50 points in an hour.

Soccer will always remain a great sport, but 3rd world. Especially so long as the Brits still embrace it.

If that's the case, then I've been misled. It was my understanding that a sailor would be in trouble if he didn't drink.

There used to be a van that drove up and down Ft.Lauderdale beach just to pick up the drunk sailors during Fleet Week.

Some of them boys were so messed up. I always worried the locals would rob them. We called the locals "Beach Maggots".

They cleaned up Ft.Laud. and thank God. Spring Break was just as bad. Now we get a much mellower tourist.

But the stories I could tell.........

Navy officers should never drink. The Marines can take care of that and the women for them as always. LIL

Shore Patrol drink or behave inappropriately in uniform? I stood Shore Patrol from Malaga, Spain to Izmir, Turkey and I never saw anyone drinking in uniform. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

As a 20 year old 3rd Class on my first Shore Patrol assignment I learned the hard way that drinking a "coke" in the bars really meant a little "coke" and a lot of rum...course the "boss" was a stranger to none of the "ladies" and he really enjoyed breaking me in...
