If you've ever loved a dog...
I warn you. The link below will make you cry - in a good way. It's the story of a 3-legged black Labrador, dying of cancer, on the last day of his life. His owners knew it was time to put him down. But his last day was one of love, joy, and togetherness. There are photographs - right to the end.
Again - a warning. This is bittersweet. But if you've ever loved a dog and lost him/her, you'll appreciate it. It's a touching story.

I can't watch it, John. I live in fear of possibly having to say goodbye to my beloved little Moose. Thinking about it more because a human friend who was kind of a surrogate daughter just died.

Well that's it for this day. Glad I didn't see it just before going to bed. I have loved some dogs in my time...and lately a few cats. This one's gonna hurt me for a while but still it was beautiful and I was impressed and happy to see the kind of people that Duke was lucky enough to spend a little time with. I'll bet that it won't be long before these good folks rescue another needy and deserving pet. There's a special place in heaven for this kind of people.
Now I gotta go find the Kleenex.....rilly.

This brought back lots of memories. I've always had large dogs so their lifespan is much shorter than the smaller breeds so consequently I've had to go through this many times. It never gets any easier. My current buddy is 10 so I've got a couple of years to go. Every time I say "I can't do this again", but a few months later I break down and rescue another one.
First picture is Sebastian, I lost him in 2006 at the age of 12. The next picture is of Bobbi, my current dog, the day we picked her up from the club rescue, she was around 2 years old at the time, the last picture was taken a couple of years ago, she's now 10 years old and still acts like a puppy (a 100# puppy ) Thanks for posting this, it makes one appreciate the time with our canine friends.

I'm a little embarrassed to admit that my eyes welled up just reading the post. I think I'll open the link some other time. Yeah, I love my dogs.

I can't watch it since I just put down our Jack last week. Too fresh yet. But, we did just pick up a 10 week old rescue terrier today, so that will help!

Seeing that smile he had, I knew he was happy in those last moments, but I can also feel the deep pain his friends and family felt.
This will be happening in our family soon, although I hate to think about it. One of our two friends, Ramona, has been diagnosed with cancer. Have yet to hear what the prognosis is, but I only know that the hearts of myself and my wife will be torn to shreds. On top of that, Henry, my buddy, suffers from heart issues meaning his time is limited. Should we lose Ramona first, I fear that Henry will go soon thereafter. They are like an married couple. They have their spats but each looks after the other.

Heart breaking. I have suffered this pain many times with the dogs I lost. I have owned many dogs in my lifetime.
