The last Ship
I've watched the first three episodes and I like it. I don't know if Navy protocol is being followed in the movie but all in all it is entertaining. Some parts are a bit overdone (the Russian commander) but not so much as to spoil the story. Anybody else following it?
The other thread on The Strain is also not too bad but I think I prefer The Last Ship.

I keep thinking "Star Trek" when I watch this. Not sure it's a valid comparison, but that's what it seems like to me.

it's well written, and i like how they try to keep within protocol, but cannot due to the situation. i've enjoyed the first 3 episodes, watching the 4th right now.

Motion carried.
The storyline has LOTS of possibilities. Acting and direction are very good. The writing is very well done, as well. I haven't seen anything that put me off at all.

I was really enjoying the show until one of the young female African-American officers revealed she was gay. I really don't care about a person's sexual preference. It's none of my business, but I hate having things shoved in my face like that. That, and the indecisiveness and lack of aggression displayed by the Captain have really dampened my interest in the show.
I agree, there is lots on the tube on Sunday nights, I'll just be watching something else.

Dave

Just started watching it recently. Interesting scenario what with being the last naval warship, plague, and trying to survive and find a possible cure. Course Rhona Mitra the actress that plays the english doc is a hottie. Frank

I read the book many years ago...although the book and the TV show have very little in common. But having said that, I'm enjoying the TV show also. It's been a long time since I bothered to keep track of anything on TV to even know when it comes on, but TLS is one I made a point of watching from the start.
Afterthought: The TV show actually has more possibilities. The book is along the lines of "On the Beach" and is somewhat more depressing. The senario in the TV show at least has hope.

I watched the first one, thought it was ok,then last nite tried to watch it,to hokey for me.........the capt and x.o would never leave the ship together and like gillagans Is. they keep coming up with whatever they need...full gas suits, tranquilizer guns, speed boats ( 2 )....maybe they picked it all up in earlier shows I missed.Really all I watch is sports, news and non-fiction educational shows.

The last ship
Great show, my wife and I watched it from the beginning. I hope it will not conflict with the walking dead, on the same time frame, in August on another channel. I agree with the Captain and XO leaving the ship together as I said the same thing to my wife last night when we were watching it. Another great show is Extant with Jennifer Lopez. We watched it from the beginning and so far it has us entrigued on how a lone astronaut in space for a year can become pregnant. Time will tell.

I think Extant has Halle Berry who beats JLo to pieces. I didn't know that it had already started.

TNT is really doing better programing than the Big networks.
I like Rizzoli & Isles. Major Crimes has been well written from day one (when Brenda was in charge). Falling Skies makes me want to fast forward to the end (I never liked scary monsters).

"BOOM"
I was a big fan of The Closer which morphed into Major Crimes. Still like it.
The Last Ship is good but i am afraid it will turn out like LOST. I mean were can the whole story go or end?? The premise is kinda weak also. So this ship and the Russian one are the only ones that survived?? No Subs??
I enjoyed Lots of good old movies like On the Beach

Not a bad show but my question is when do they find the "Last Gas Station" for the Last Ship? I guess have a nuke destroyer would have ruined the story line.

My wife and I have been watching from the beginning and enjoying it. See some occasional things that are not plausible but, hey, it's Hollywood and you find those in every show. It's been pretty good entertainment so far for Sunday evenings that are truly dead without the Walking Dead.

I didn't think the CO & XO would leave the ship at the same time, but I wasn't Navy. I find it entertaining.

One thing I found ominous in last nights show was the Mark Twain quote the doctor said to Tex. "Everyone is a moon, and has a dark side which he never shows to anybody." I have the feeling somewhere along the way, Tex is going to be a loose cannon.
And yes, the C.O. and X.O. would never leave the ship together like that. Send Tex out with a group of non-rated bosun's mates so you don't lose any skilled people if they don't come back.

I am putting up with stuff like the Commander and the XO leaving the ship at the same time because Adam Baldwin plays the XO.
Waiting for "I was aiming for his head," or another Firefly reference.
The plot had them fueling up at Gitmo, and scavenging fuel from a derelict liner before that. That made a certain amount of sense. Some other stuff, not so much.

We like it. I hope it don't turn into a soap opera, though......and it seems headed that way. Maybe they need to kill off a few main characters....vote in a new captain....raise the Jolly Roger....you know, stuff like that.

Anybody else notice the actor playing the Commander/Captain of the ship looks like a modern reincarnation of actor Jeffrey Hunter?

I like the show and have watched it from the start. Some of it is far fetched but it's a good story. TNT is putting out some good stuff and giving the old networks a run for thier money.

I didn't spend much time with the Fleet, but I can tell you that aggression in a Skipper of a guided missile destroyer isn't usually something the Navy works on fostering.

I havent seen it yet but I do like the premise of the show. It reminds me somewhat--of the short-lived Tv seriesthat was on back in the 1980s-called: Supercarrier. That show starred Richard Jaeckel. Shame it didnt work out--I thought it was very good.

Subs were the first thing that came to my mind with me being an ex-Sub guy. I did notice the Captain had a pair of SS sub dolphins hanging on his wall in the latest episode. Im enjoying it so far.

The first I heard of it... my son ask me if I was gonna watch the "The Last Shi#". As I thought he was talkin' 'bout some fella's last Number 2 in the bathroom... I told him "No... I don't want to know 'bout my last one... and dam sure don't want to think 'bout somebody else's".
Glad me and the boy got that word-misunderstandin' all cleared up.... and I did get to watch it. Do like it so far... although I am a land-lubber.

I have liked the show so far and think that the actress that plays the Doctor is really something to look at. When she was in "Strike Back" my wife would ask me if I liked that actress and I would squirm out of it but yes, she's hot.
Here's a question: (Spoiler Alert)...so, in episode 3 that young couple goes in a speedyboat and blows a hole in the other ship, jumping into the water at the last minute before impact. Fine, but their own ship has sailed away through the narrow straight.
How did they get back to their own ship? How were they rescued? It struck me as about impossible that they would not have been captured or shot in the water but there they were, wet and happy and back on deck by the end of the show. I mean, unless they had a Star Trek transporter, it just didn't seem feasible to me that they could have ever gotten back but maybe I'm missing something or don't know about some simple piece of tech the Navy has for accomplishing such delicate rescues from under the very noses of angry enemy ships they've just blown a non-fatal hole into.

i wondered this myself...i did hear the captain say something about a rescue craft...but...ummm they were kinda close to the russian ship...maybe they dived really deep and held their breath until the rescue boat got to them...lol
