Exclamation Gotta love those Germans--they sure love their Bier.....

I meant to post this a couple days ago when i firwst heard about it and thought in a way--how funny it was.

During the world Cup match with Germany vs??? someone or a group of someones--stole 80,000 GALLONS of Bier from a warehouse. I think that's 180,000 pints???? Anyway, German Police are going around scratching their heads trying to find out where all that Bier is? They discounted that it might have been passe out during the game free (or) cheap-to anyone who wanted it.

The above load--is enough to fill ten 18-wheelers.

They like their BIER because it is delicious! I have found nothing in the good old USA to match what I could find anywhere in Germany when I served over there in the 60s. It seemed like every town of any size had a least one brewery, and many had several, all of them putting out a superior product. Germany's Reinheitsgebot controls the ingredients that are allowed to be used in the making of bier--water, hops, and barley-nothing else. This law dates back to November 30, 1487, and obviously is a good one, as every sip I had while there was superb.

What was/is the name of that one over there, that came in a white bottle, with the flip up wire holding the stopper, and I "think" it had a stripe running diagonal down the bottle? That was some good beer. (As I remember, from many many moons ago)

I was lucky enough to be there for 2 Oktoberfests and I was 20 the first time and 21 the second. I have always loved beer and they sure know how to make it. Some was better to me than others but I didn't drink any that didn't taste good. Wonder where all that beer went.
Peace,
gordon

Henniger bier had the snap cap bottles and was one of the best biers you will ever have tasted that came in a bottle. for a while they stopped using the snap caps because the rubber seals weren't being changed at every refill. I have been to Oktoberfest 4 times and if you think you like bier you owe it to yourself to go. you will like it and Munich is a nice town to visit

I'm drinking some long trail, double bag. It's a double altbier and German inspired, but made in Vermont. A strong 7.2 alcohol content makes the hours following 3rd shift quite enjoyable

80,000 gallons is a pretty big heist. I'd have to have some friends over to help get rid of the evidence.

Micro breweries are growing here in NM. Yea!!!!!!!!!!

I just missed going to their Oktoberfest back in 2000. I wanted to go so bad--not really for the Beer--but just to be with the crowds. I think I missed it by a weeK???

Anyway, my good friend Ulrich Zecke lives there and you can bet gets his fill of the soapy stuff. :-))

Heh heh, Ulrich is 6 ft 8 tall and weighs about 3 tons (not really but) and was in the Mountain troops when he was serving in the Bundeswehr. He looks like the German version of Arnold Shwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone combined. Probs with the local Polizei--neh--it would take a squad of them to take Ulrich in--not that's he a baddie but just sayin.'

You could even have it delivered to your door like milk was here in the states. Great beer. Far exceeds that of American made beer.

when I got out of the service and found looking around for German bier in the middle of Nebraska was a no win situation. I found a bar that had Lowenbrau so I though finally that maybe my search was over. after the first drink I wondered what in the hell is this stuff as it tasted like American beer. I started reading the bottle and said it was brewed under license by some company here in America. oh well the closest I have found to German bier is Sam Adams Oktoberfest seasonal. I think Becks and Pauli Girl are brewed under license as well. mostly I drink dark Heineken now. I keep searching for others

Was stationed in Germany for three years and tried a lot of the local biers and they were much better than the ones that were exported to the US. Most of the towns over there had breweries back then not sure about these days.

Oh, and everyone is talking about Oktoberfest, do any of you remember Fasching(spelling)? This was when everyone partied even those that normally didn't get out much. It was kind of like their version of Mardi Gras. Misspelled that too darn not my night.

Grolsch beer from the Netherlands has/had a pivoting lid like that, in a green bottle. A very good, full beer.

I began using a medication several years ago that conflicts with alcohol, so had to quit drinking. So I haven't checked out any beers in awhile. But the Danes, the Czechs ,and the Dutch also make superior beers.

I was only in Germany for eighteen months and had a great deal worked out with the owner of a local club. I bought three bottles of Johnny Walker Red a month and drank beer free all month. Of course being German he had to establish some rules, I could not "buy" a beer for anyone else and had a self imposed daily limit of 7 liters, or 14 .5 liter glasses. When I came back to the states I couldn't catch a buzz off a beer to save my life, all I did was recycle it.
I believe Fasching used to coincide with the signing of the Armistice, November 11...wildest partys I have ever seen, anywhere...if you got into the right group. There would be signs on businesses...Closed for Fasching...
Octoberfest was alot of fun but highly commercial-ized. The events that were really fun were the wine fests in the small towns. The Burgermeister would give a little speech and then start smacking the bung of a huge cask of white wine with a hammer, there was a brief period where wine was spraying everywhere before they got the spigot in place. It seems today from my memory that the wine I drank over there was so much better than anything I've drank here, same for the beer, German beer in Germany is not like anything here unless you can get it on tap, properly.
