Josey Wales:
When I get to likin' someone, they ain't around long.
Lone Watie:
I notice when you get to DISlikin' someone they ain't around for long neither.
I think the chief stole every scene he was in.

It's a great movie... just not on AMC. Hate the commercials and censorship. TCM or Encore are better venues.
Great soundtrack, especially the fife and drum march, "Old 1812" at the beginning of the movie.
Dialogue-wise, it's one of Eastwood's best movies. It's got as many good one-liners as one of the '30s "screwball" comedies. The guns and gun handling are excellent as well.

I love it! I own it! It's one of my favorite movies.
The river crossing sequence and meeting Chief George I think are better than most complete movies!
And getting along with the Comanches is probably out in fantasy land.
They didn't get along with anybody, including other Indians.

There are so many interesting things in that movie!
Like- Comancheros. They were a mysterious group of traders from NM who traded with the Comanche- that's why they were named that - and other plains tribes. The Comanches were an elusive and combative tribe.
For example, up at Bents Fort near La Junta, CO they say that most Indians were invited into the fort to trade. But not the Comanches! They traded with them outside.
The Comancheros show up in a number Of movies, usually in a negative way. They probably did at times trade captives- slaves. They may have at times provided the Indians with firearms and powder.
They travelled from NE NM in Carretas. They went as far North as Neb and as far South as the Texas Big Bend.
I think the Comancheros are one of the most interesting and least understood people in this part of the country.
Here is a carreta. Its located at the Martinez hacienda, Taos, NM.

This here's a picture of Josey Wales. Found him on a street corner about 6 years ago. He was pretty beat up & I thought he needed a tough guy name.
Also, if you recall, Ten Bears called him "The Grey Rider". Thus, the handle.
Am I a fan? You bet I am!

Forrest Carter's life ended way too soon, he only wrote 4 books. The movie was made from the first two. It was said some of the chief's lines were from his family legends. Ivan

We just got rid of satellite TV. We live out in the country, so there are no local stations available by antenna either, and no cable. We can get local news on the internet, and we can watch movies and TV shows on Netflix and Hulu Plus. We've even found a few sites that stream current TV programs for free.
It was kind of tough the first couple of days, until we realized that the TV had been mostly background noise anyway, and how little we really watched the programs on TV. The one downside is sports...my wife is a football fanatic, and I can already see we will have to solve that problem, unless I want to take her to a sports bar every time a game is on.

I watched it twice yesterday. I never get tired of: "Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle Dixie?" Several of the photos I bought a few months ago--were during and after that scene.

Condsider yourself punished enough,. Clint was even nuce enough to give her an "Auf Wiedersehen--NICHT!" package too when the "lady" tried suing him when they broke up. If it werent for Clint--she wouldnt have made more than 2 or 3 movies--none were high budget either.

I've found both that cut from the soundtrack, and a version or two from fife and drum bands on the internet.
I've been trying to find a copy, online or elsewhere, of the march from the Irish Brigade scenes in "Gods and Generals". It's called "Frog in the Well". No luck so far.

A few of my favorite quotes...
1) "Now remember, when things look bad and it looks like you're not gonna make it, then you gotta get mean. I mean plumb, mad-dog mean. 'Cause if you lose your head and you give up then you neither live nor win. That's just the way it is."
2) Well, Mr. Carpetbagger. We got somethin' in this territory called a Missouri boat ride.
3) Dyin' ain't much of a livin', boy.
4) Lone Watie: Get Ready little lady. Hell is coming to breakfast.

Yeah buddy, Joe Kidd. Gave Lamarr with the machine pistol hell the whole movie.
Kudos to whoever put together the cast of firearms in that movie. I admire that breakdown rifle Josie swiped for the sniper standoff. Appeared Mr. Kidd and myself share an affliction, right-handed yet left eye dominant.

We have a common interest, Pilgrim. The links between the pirates of the Sea of Cortez, the Ciboleros and the Comancheros are real. The northern end of the Sea connected the wandering/migratory opportunists to those native tribe/spanish mixed land based traders, who had access to the horses that provided the mobility that got the travellers as far as the south central Texas. When we look at a map, it's not that far, but it is harsh country.
Survival of the fittest produced some tough hombres, I rekon.

Good quote but the "Are you going to pull those pistols or Whistle Dixie" sounds so muc better. Then again, im a Son of Dixie so may be a bit biased.

I downloaded a very good vocal version of "Bonnie Blue Flag" while looking for "Old 1812" and "Frog in the Well". I got it off peer to peer. Can't remember who performed it, or what it was from. Around the same time I got an excellent vocal version of "Garry Owen" as well.

Im at Wm now and think ill see if we have a copy here? I still dont have Pale Rider. I hate it that he has to kill John Russell though. Russell was a Lt. in the Marines in WWII, but also his Commanding Officer at the beginning of Josey Wales.
Also,I am on the lookout for some good John Russell stills. Saw him in an episode of Maverick last night.:-))

Another way to find downloadable TV shows and movies is with this program:
Express Files
You put in a search string and it gives you a list of the files found. If you click on a file, it will then download that file. It is more useful than a google search because it connects you directly to the download page.

If you have a puter in the country you have movies on you tube. I watch them in bed. My spinal stenosis is killing me.
